Got gta IV and installed it, first time put disc in it booted fine but took a while. After installation securom gave me a few errors before the game started working fine. I managed to boot up the game 3 consecutive times without any problems. I then installed 1.6 patch which caused problems and the game would no longer boot, so I uninstalled it and removed all rockstar files and folders. Now when I insert the disc it won't even boot so I can get to the installer, the drive just keep reading it and does nothing and it isn't shown as having any disc in. Other discs work fine. What to do?

If you know anyone else who has a copy try their disc... I used to work in a factory that made discs and they can be really fussy things even with the best manufacturing techniques. Some discs will work fine on all readers but one, and some will work when they're cold but not after they've become hot from a few hours of the laser reading it etc... it's a very complicated thing sometimes. If you can, try a different reader (I always use two seperate drives for reading discs since I used to rent DVDs from Blockbuster (which were terribly damaged discs usually from the heavy use) and sometimes one disc would play fine in one reader and not the other, and vice versa. As I say it's a really hard problem to diagnose because there are so many variables when it comes to CD/DVD reading.

Yeh, disc 2 is working fine so I've put it down to disc 1 being faulty. I only have 1 drive so can't try another, but I've packaged it up and sending it back :(

Try making images then run them virtually. If you are unable to make images on your machine, then try creating the images on a different machine/dvd rom drive
