GTA IV windows 7 Problem

Hey Guy's I've posted on here once before as a different user some many many months ago (useless info). I just installed GTA IV to my PC today and when I came to run the game it was jerking really slow the frame rate was less than 1 FPS it was doing a frame every 4 seconds.

Before I updated to Windows 7 I had the game installed on vista and had no problems like this before. Whenever I look at the main city (or any direction not facing out to sea) my frame rate is just terrible. But if I look at the floor it runs at a solid 60 FPS.

I know its not my hardware as I could run it maxed out at a solid 40FPS before but just because you will ask anyway I will post my specs.

CPU: i7 920 (Stock)
RAM: 3GB DDR3 1866Mhz
MOBO: Asus 96t
GPU: GTX 280

=======Things Ive tried========

Ive installed all the updates
restarted PC (thought by some devine miracle it may work)
Put graphics on low
ate a Sandvvich.

Nothing seems to work. Anyway thanks for reading the thread I hope you can somehow help me.

PS...I just thought, maybe its because of the new update...last time I played the game was in june there has been 1 or 2 updates since then.

check to make sure graphics drivers are installed, 0.25 fps is a bit on the low side.

Drivers are installed I can play other games perfectly, Although last night I gave it one last try and after 2min of playing it went alright. Just got home so I am going to try play it again if it stays ok for the rest of the night I'll trash this thread.

Firstly, nice sig! Love it

Right, now the most important bit is out the way. How are other games? What else have you got installed? Can you try playing the game withut applying the patches? There are known issues with the patches, especially 1.3. What patch is it running at now?

Great system, except for the 280! (I have nvidia)

follow this guide to improve performance and remove restrictions

i get 40-60fps at 1920 ress everything turned on full using 1 gtx 295...but i did follow this guide,it improved my performance a lot,i also used nhancer to create profile using AA,and also tell the game to make use of quad core cpu..which helps a lot

Thanks for all the help guys for some reason the game is running perfectly now, no idea what that was all about.

Also Badboy i'm upgrading to a 5870 or new GTX 300 series depending on the price in jan.
