I have just set up a new computer.

The first game i wanted to try was GTA IV, i think i bought it over a year ago, but my last computer couldnt handle it.

It has installed fine, but now i cannot play it as the DVD is not being recognised.

Is this something to do with securom?

would buying a new dvd drive help (it is over 6yrs old)

i dont understand what is wrong, all other disks are read fine, GTA IV was read fine prior to installation. It is a legit copy, and the disk has no scratches.

I had this exact issue when I brought the game on release day

A new drive solved the problem. My old one was only 2 years old at the time but it did have a pretty good workout. I've not had any problem with DVD media on the new drive so far.

Afaik rockstar support itself sent a no-cd crack fix for people with issues, AWPC (could have been someone else from the forum though) linked me to it ages ago iirc, however iirc it didn't work on all OS-es, or well, it still asked for a dvd in Vista x64 for me. Luckily I haven't had an issue yet with it reading my dvd, but I am highly annoyed I have to use a DVD to play the game though.

Yup I think I am going to have to try a new drive. Doesn't make sense though that it can recognise the disk for installation.

There is an official no cd patch for the game, i'll upload it tonight when i'm back from work if you can't get hold of it.
