I tried to find the existing thread on this topic but it appears to have sunk to the board minor leagues.

Just started a replay of GTA SA (Steam version) and thought I would apply one of the epn(?)/FXAA mods to improve the graphics. Unfortunately, this stopped the game from running on attempting to load a save and I had to do a cache refresh on Steam to repair. I also read somewhere this mod can cause the GPU to overheat.

So basically what I'm after is a reliable overall graphics enhancement mod, which will work with the Steam version, not bork my graphics card and ideally not from a site where you need to register. SA is still a great game but the graphics are now really looking their age even cranked up to the maximum possible.

Even with the aged graphics, I'm loving it. Not even started the main plot but made enough money to buy three save points and pushed the Pimp, Burglary and Delivery missions, oh plus Firefighter. Currently grinding the graffiti tags which is a good way to get the driving and bike stats up. Will save a wry grin when I finally roll up in Grove Street with $100k plus and lament, "C.R.A.S.H. took my paper, man." The only drawback with that approach is relying on $1 twinkie bars or Sprunk to replenish the food, rather than a couple of $15 meals once the food outlets open.

Of course not looking forward to the trickier missions - the bouncing car, New Model Army and Freefall but all part of the rich mix!

Ah well, doesn't look as though I'm playing it through anymore. In addition to the graphics, there seems to be fairly major issues on Win 10 with hardware. Loss of mouse, unpredictable keyboard behaviour. The stupid bouncing car and DJ van missions took numerous attempts because the keys used (when I last played on Win 7 18 months ago) seemed to only work erratically and using the thumbstick on the joypad was too sluggish.

Then on the mansion mission I couldn't do the stealth attack as the RMB "aim" for the knife wouldn't activate, nor would the joypad button. I've also had numerous instances of the mouse view suddenly stop working while walking around with CJ and you have to go into Options to refresh controls to get full movement restored.

When that causes you to fail a mission and you then have to deal with the long trek to the mission giver to restart, just got too much like hard work.

Perhaps one day R* will bring out a re-mastered and updated version for modern hardware, until then this was my valedictory look at what was probably one of the best games of all time.

Hi mate i'll writ up a guide and get you all the relevant links on how to downgrade to 1.0 (to get all the removed music/content back), install controller support for 360 pads and a few more. Having breakfast at the moment but have faith, hopefully you can make it work.

I've tried quite a few over the years and none were very stable. Some were pretty awful graphically/artistically as well.

There was an enb available for it, no idea if it is being updated. A lot of mods require v 1.0 of the exe; steam is 1.1. It should be possible to downgrade through a patch for retail versions. Not sure about steam.

Check out the multiplayer mod (might have lost its edge after GTA5:O though). I remember it being great fun playing alone even. Many different servers and there are Role Plagimhw servers etc too.

Thanks for the offer will certainly check it out, though at the moment I've deleted the lot (including my save game files) and more likely to plunge back into GTA V for an in depth play through.
