Thinking of getting a new 500GB SSD as my current 128GB one has 3GB of storage space left ( where my Windows OS is installed )
I do have an M.2 specifically for game installations.

Question is. If I get rid of my old 128GB SSD and reinstall windows fresh on a new SSD. Will I be able to continue story mode where I left off ?
I play GTA V and GTA Definitive Collection ( mainly GTA 3 and Vice City )

Asking as a few years back I reinstalled Windows and then had to start from the beginning

I use Rockstar Launcher/Steam

So I will keep the M.2 which has GTA installed on it, but replacing my SSD with the windows install

Thanks

If you back up C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents\Rockstar Games Your GTA files and profiles with all your settings and saves is located there.

Nice one thanks for that. Yeah I can see it stored there.
So I back that up to a USB stick for example. Reinstall windows on the new SSD, then how do link the saves back to the game ? Or will Rockstar Games detect it automatically, once I transfer the backed up files to the correct location ?

The game reads the profile when starting.

If for any reason the game does not and creates a new profile with a new name. Copy that to the desktop, Rename your existing profile to that and you should be good.

You could always just clone your current SSD to your new one (if its reasonably clean)

Macrium Reflect is a good free program to do so. I've backed up my 500GB Samsung 980 pro SSD to Samsung EVO 850 500GB many times (and restored the OS a few time too)
