gta4 activation. no response!

sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but i dont know where to turn. spent an age installing and activating then it spits out a message at me : "a required security module cannot be activated. this program cannot be executed 6000". so i decided to re-install, i know i should have left it but now when i go to activate manually (the setup wont let me use the online) the damn button wont work! like the program is not responding.
so re-installed again and its doing the same thing and im worried that ill use up the install limit (if there is one).
im getting no joy from gta forums, rockstar tech support and securoms site is rubbish.
please help as i was looking forward to playing this over xmas.

Try turning off anti virus etc, or anything else that runs a service (cd mounting software).

Alternatively try running in compatibility mode for an older OS (windows 2000 fixes it for some people - right click -> properties -> compatibility). try setting 'run as administrator' while you're there, too.

The wonders of Securom. Sometimes pirating games is easier than installing them legitimately.
