im trying to play this on my tv but im getting around 20fps even with everything off/low.
is there a fps lock or any other tweaks to try and get a little better fps?
ive only got a 4870 and x2 6000 but like i say even on low i would have thought it would be more than 20.

There's your problem. You really need a quad-core to get the game performing at a decent level.

Although in saying that, even when I had my dual core x2 3200+ and GTX260 I was getting between 20-25fps on medium-low settings.

What do you have the view and detail distances set at?

do you have the latest patch?
i purchased it on sat and updated it to the latest patch and it runs fine on my tv high settings.

its via steam so it should all be up to date

well 20-25 fps would be fine tbh, atm its going down to 12-18 with everything low or off
the distances are 30/10/10 ish i think

Not long after GTAIV was released I ran an in-game fps test via spare PC, using [email protected] up against [email protected]. With 5* wanted level and all hell breaking loose; Q6600 managed respectable minimum fps, yet the E6750 dipped to around 15 to 20fps at times.

Should add that the above was on patch 1.4, the latest patch tends to be even more of a resource hog! :(

Shouldn't be going quite that sluggish. Have you done a spyware sweep, hard-drive defrag and made sure all unnecessary background processes are turned off?

have done all but the last bit, do you mean turning off stuff like IE or winamp in the background or deeper into windows sort of stuff?

You want at least a tri-core for GTA4. On my old setup (x2 @3ghz) it ran like a dog so I put the game to one side until I got a better cpu (phenom x4) after which it ran smooth as silk (compared to the old chip anyway).

Get those draw distances turned down, they give quite a boost. I had mine set to 1 (view distance / detail distance i think they are called) when I was running a dual core cpu.
