any ideas?

I've had no end of probs with this darn game. Tested it on XP Pro 32 bit and XP Pro x64. Managed to sort out the black textures problem by reseting the Catalist drivers to factory defaults. But still get bombarded with weird and wonderfull BSOD. I own a Sapphire HD4870 1GB GDDR5 card and far as i'm aware there is no BIOS update for it. Tried the latest 9.2 drivers and used old ones but no avail.

Has anyone managed to play this game using a Sapphire HD4870 1GB card?

Whats the BIOS date on the card. If i have some details i might be able to help. Don't try and complete the steps above on your card.

Sound like system instability, lower your overclocks and try again, GTA IV has always been solid for me, even with vram usage always maxed out ( without norestrict anyways). Either that or drivers.

8 hours is not enough, I wouldn't trust my oc 100% without at least 12 hrs of cpu testing and 12 hours of blend test.

Rofl at dualboot suggestion! What had that got to do with it ?

and edit: sorry for not reading the thread, glad you fixed it. Borked gpu bios ! That's a new one :p.
