Hi All.

I have just built a a8 -3870 pc

onboard 6550d graphics with 6670 in crossfire

8gb memory + 64 bit windows

In high it is like slow motion. I have to put it to medium to get any sort of quality

Could anyone suggest why this would be with a quadcore pc??

Cheers,

Your setup is more what i would use for a HTPC than gaming tbh, you'll get away with some light gaming but it's never going to pack a punch. Add to that GTA4 being badly coded in the first place and you're up the creek.

Without a paddle.

OP: Are the patches fully up to date?

Heya Brown. A couple of pieces of bad news dude. Firstly GTA IV was never really optimised properly for PC, so it runs like absolute **** for a game of its moderate prettiness, it's still a fairly demanding piece of software as a result. Your hardware selection might not be as punchy either. The HD 6670 is a fairly anaemic card and a 3870K will add very little to your frame rate. Toms recently did an analysis (with a Trinity APU tho iirc) that showed zero IRL performance increase from hybrid crossfire. That having been said the A8 3870K is actually a pretty decent processor tho, so it won't actually hold you back too much with a good GPU.

So I guess the two pieces of bad news basically boil down to one simple thing: get a more powerful graphics card if you want to play GTA IV ;) It's basically a lack of graphics firepower that's the issue.

True, but the resolution is important here. At 1366x768 my 7670m (mobile GPU, sub 6670 performance) isn't TOO bad in GTAIV. At 1920x1080, all bets would be off however!

Actually, I found and a few others found I am sure using icehancer and other graphical mods increased the frame rate.. You could give it a try mate..

For some reason, it always seemed to run better on Nvidia cards in my experience. It runs worse on my 7950 (both single or crossfire) than it did on my 8800 GTX and 570 GTX. The stuttering for me at the moment is just dreadful. I eventually gave up trying to play it.

I thought it didnt as in the game when i go under the graphics menu, it just displays my crappy radeon hd 6550D onboard graphics.......

what a pitty!!! :-(

Noticed this as well, game is dreadful on AMD cards.
