Hi guys, I just upgraded my machine from a Core2Duo E6600 + 8800 GTX to what you can see in my sig now. (Yes the GPU is underpowered I know, I am waiting for the ATI 5970).

GTA4 played reasonably well on my old machine but now I have started playing it on my new one it takes at least three times as long to load from my last saved game! I don't really know where to start, google is lacking on the subject so I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas?

The game is fully legit and has the latest patches applied.

Ta!

I have exactly the same issue!

Ran it fine on Windows 7 RTM, but after installing Windows 7 Pro retail, it has really started to slow down with the loading. Takes forever to load the save games, and in between levels also sometimes. Rig in sig.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Perhaps this is a Windows 7 issue, hopefully Rockstar will get a patch out soon.

Same here, Win XP it would load fast now in Windows 7 i takes a stupid amount of time.. I cant see the hdd working or anything it just taking its sweet time for nothing.

Not had loading issues on W764-Bit, but when it rains in-game it utterly kills my i7 920/gtx 280 system e.g. lags and stutters.

That is a wtf of the highest order for me...

Is v-sync turned off in the game options? The game has it set to on by default, which seems to cause longer load times in my experience.

Bit of a tip.

This only really speeds up the loading sequence at the very beginning - you know the one, the one with fancy pictures of the characters and the annoying music?

Well, immeditately after selecting Start from the main menu, press Home (so that the GamesForWindowsLive menu drops down from the top of the screen) and leave it open. Doing this should reduce the amount of time you are subjected to that tiresome loading screen.

Hope this helps, let me know if it works for you. :)

I recently upgraded to W7HP I have this problem too. Annoyingly GTA4 loaded much faster in Vista!! I hope a fix is found sometime soon but glad to know Im not the only one as well as I thought my PC was crapping out on me!

no problems, except running in quad which crashes the game, however gta4 is worth testing out with different drivers..i have found the quadro driver 191.66 works best for me

I only bought GTA IV yesterday and the only long loading time I've found is at the start with those pictures. Once that's loaded the game seems to run rather smooth considering I've been told it runs awful.

If you make a text folder in your game DIR called "commandline.txt" and add the following to it "-norestrictions" apparantly that can help, I'm yet to try it though.

I'll try it in a bit.
