Hi all, this is not supposed to start a console v pc war, but wondering how the games graphics/gameplay compare, Ive got PGR3 on 360 and never played a single racing game on my pc but now ive just set up a 360 joypad on my pc im thinking about getting GT legends or GTR, I read an old review and it seems GT legends is more of a racing sim as opposed to just turn on and play, is this a good or bad thing considering Im not really clued up on motorsports?..

thanks

In terms of gameplay you can't really compare the two hardcore simulations you have chosen there against the obviously arcade racer on the xbox. GTR and GT Legends both really require some effort to get to grips with it, let alone master. PGR3 is more 'pick up and play', like you describe.

Yes, PGR3 looks far better but that is (in my opinion) a moot point. As has been said many times in here, you'll probably find you're wasting your money on either of those GT games if you plan on trying to learn playing them with a joypad; without a steering wheel you'll most likely find it a frustrating experience.

If you're after a PC racer along the same lines as PGR3, you're probably looking at buying Juiced, Flatout or one from the Need For Speed: Underground series.

Thanks guys, I did try Juiced a while back but didnt really take to the boy racer style of the game, same with NFS, seems like they were intended for the younger market I suppose its cos im pushing 30 years old and all that stuff is behind me lol. I do like PGR3 a lot though, its not tacky, and this is what made me interested in getting a racer for the pc and GTR and Legends both have top marks in all the PC mags, just thought id check with you guys, I still may try GT legends if I find it at a decent price, Are the graphics really not up to PGR3 standards even with all settings high??

Thanks again guys

Very few games are up to PGR3 standards.

GTR and GT Legends are both games that graphics don't really matter one bit.

One thing, in my opinion is that they've both got far, far better sound than PGR3 for engines / road / tyre noise.

Going from PGR3 to GTR/GTL is like going from learning to crawl to being a marathon runner (well, maybe not that bad, but you get my point :p), as they're Sim games, not arcadey games they are very hard to get used to, you'll end up just spinning a car the first time you put your foot down, or brake at a corner. I'm still total pants at the two, but I'm still learning.

There's demos of GTR and GTL out, so you should have a download and see what you think for yourself.

I must be missing something, but I saw pgr3 (I think) on a high def lcd and it looked pants, yes you get 3d crowd which is better, but the jaggies on the cars were awfull, I was going to get a 360, but all the demos pn lcds look pants, they do look good on a crt though.
I have gtr and gt legends and they are both great, but you do have to have wheel and put the time in, the car graphics are great but the crowds are bad.
I would go for gt legends, I bought it when it was on offer, its not worth £35, its very driveable with a wheel.
The demo put me off mind you because the cars are particularly tricky in it.
Toca 3 demo looks like a happy medium to me, not totally arcadie but not anally simmy, a bit to easy on the settings I had it, but I like winning!
I've preordered it, seems to be £18 and some well known e stores.

Some times i would say the 2 games almost look the same but thats probably because i havent got a hdtv but once you go into the garage on pgr3 and check out your cars its clear who the winner is.

Haha if you find that hard what you want to do is play GPL for the first time with no aids round Nurburgring. :p Then you will find just how stable the cars in GTR and GTL are!

Also give me physics over graphics anyday.

I think PGR3 looks nicer than GTL, but GTL probably spends a lot more power number crunching and powering the physics behind the game. I love the motion blur effect in use in Gotham, when those effects come to the PC sim racers that will be a nice increase in quality.

GTL does have some nice effects too.

As for which one is better gameplay wise, they almost aren't comparable. One being arcadey, the other simmy - your favourite depends on how serious you like to take your sim racing.

I prefer GTL. In terms of a 'gaming experience' it's probably in my top 3 games of all time.
