Hi peeps,

Bought this game a few days ago and was pretty surprised at how demanding it was

At first I started playing at 1280 x 1024 / AA x4.

Thought my 7600GT XT should just about cope with it like it does with GTL.
Didn't know how wrong I could be, decided to shoot up a 61 car race with 100% rainfull, and holy **** my card got raped, there's reflections going on all over the place!

I currently play at 800 x 600 / AA x8 / AS x16 and it runs pretty well, still get a bit of lag in the raining races but thats to be expected.

I could play it at 1024 x 768 with med settings and no AA / AS but I like it looking its best at whatever resolution I can get it up to :p

So, I was wondering, what do you guys play this game at and what cards you using to get through it?

Have seen on some forums people with 7900GT's and even X1900XTX's can't seem to hack it at full

Thanks:)

I get about 60fps avg running at 1280 x 1024, 4xAA with everything maxed out inside the game options.

Running:
X1800XT (overclocked)
E6400 @ 3.2Ghz
2GB Geil ultra low latency

glen8 your system will run it flawlessly :)

Also: Rain causes huge performance hits (esspecially at 100%) and 61 car race is just crazy in the first place having to load all those cars!

The game runs extremely smooth generally, don't get hung up on performance here if you've got a recent rig.

The processor takes a hit when there's a full grid on a race start. This game handles whacking amounts of physics calculations. I think that's the factor, rather than graphics.

Anyone here use a wheel to play?

Im finding it damn hard to control the car with one :(

Would really like to use it as turning is a breeze with one, its just the breaking that im finding difficult.

Also driving in a straight line is a bit of a pain aswell as the wheel I have is FF.

Another thing, what views are we all using?

Ive been mainly playing full car view (behind) and a bit of front bumper.

Would like to be able to race in the in car mode, but breaking is a bit of an issue for me, seems impossible to see the bends most of the time and you have to judge where and when to break!

Edit: Ok Im starting to get used to using the wheel:)

Anyone actually find it easy driving in in-car mode?

ive got a geforce 6800 overclocked a bit, run at 1280x1024 with 4xaa with settings somewhere between medium and high, i get about 20 fps at the start of the race, but it lingers about 35-40 during normal racing.

i use a DFP and in-car view, its pretty easy to see the corners and braking isnt hard really..

I always drive in cockpit view. Driving from behind the car mode is a lot harder imo and reminds me of arcade games such as NFS.

Driving in cockpit is also best because of the Motec display in (most) of the cars. Plus it makes me feel more immersed!

What wheel are you using btw?

Me too, but anymore than around 17 cars on the track and i start to chugg a bit.

Hmm, brought up a point then.

Think i'l do what you guys are doing then, Il try get 1024 x 768 max with a few cars, around 10, and let my apps decide AA/AS settings so that I will only be using 4x AA for the game.

Then Il have a look see what performance is like:)

Driving in single player mode allows you to have high settings, but when it comes to doing what GTR2 was mostly ment to be for (online racing) then prepared to be dissapointed when it comes to graphics and smoothness.
Some tracks like Magny-Cours have terrible framerates both offline and online, but online it is really bad, as many people have tried turning the settings down pretty low and still get slowdown and stuttering when approaching the start/finish straight. but this is down to the good old net code of GTR2
Admitidley the game can look great with settings on high or full but whats the use of that if it isn't even playable with a few cars to race with.

Everything maxed (including AA and AF), 1680 x 1050.

Runs smooth as silk for the most part, even in rain. It is a little chuggy at the start with a huge grid in the rain though.
