GTS 320mb or up to 512mb

on World in Conflict it gets ok at around 1200x900 on medium. On a 22" samsung syncmaster.I get an average of 20fps and a lowest of 7fps on the benchmark.

I went from a 8800GTS 320mb to a 8800GT to a 8800 GTS 512Mb and the difference was amazing.

At 1280 x 1024 my 320Mb GTS would struggle with some games. I now game at 1680 x 1050 and the new GTS runs everything at smooth high framerates (crysis excluded).

In saying that, even crysis on high with a couple of mods runs the benchmark in the thirties at that res.

The GTS 512mb is a decent upgrade. The 320mb limits that card as the 640mb model is fine. The 512mb version is still faster than the 640mb model though and the 640mb model is a lot better than the 320mb model.

Get the GTS 512mb.

You'll see a huge increase in performance, even the extra memory will help as 320mb is not enough for today.

I went from a 320mb GTS to a 512mb 8800 GT, and even that increase was huge, where on my 320mb GTS i had to turn details down, and resolution (down from 1280x1024, as that is my native), the 8800 GT allowed details to be maxed at my native res, and also allowed lots of AA (which you can also forget about with only 320mb), and it was still faster, so the 512mb GTS will be just as good/better, depending on your res. :)

thnx. and looking at things it looks to be a better investment than the 9800 gtx.

It is as its the same card, only its £100+ cheaper. :p

Everyones calling the 9800 GTX the 8800 GTS 512mb SOE (Slightly Overclocked Edition).:D

I'm pretty much in the same boat. The 640mb version actually isn't radically different in terms of performance, and is pretty much pants. If the ATI 3870x2 didn't draw so much power and was noisy I would be inclined to snap that one up. But now given that is out the picture, whether to part my money on a GTS 512mb or not is becoming incrasingly hard when I consider Nvidia's next gen stuff might be out in june.

Exact same position. Got 8800GTS 640MB considering the GTS 512MB. Yet to see how I feel on this one. Anyone link some reviews?
Also - physical size wise the GTS 640 is litterally the biggest card I can get in my case at present. The 3870X2 is (obviously) much bigger. Im guessing the GTS 512MB is the same size but will give minimal performance increase? The GTX im pretty sure is bigger?

I've in the same boat really, I've had my 320Mb BFG 8800GTS since early last year and its served me well. I'm considering selling it while I can still get a decent amount for it and getting probably either the 512mb GTS or GT.

i think nVidia's next gen stuff is already here, lol...

anyways, go for an 8800GTS - there's no guarantee that nVidia will make a massive speed boost wiit their real next gen, or even release it any time soon

i made the switch from a 640 8800gts to the 512mb version a few months ago, had just bought a 24 inch monitor and the 640 gts was struggling with the native res, but with the newer gts games are a lot smoother plus i can use a bit of aa/af.

*Slight thread hijack*
I also have a 320GTS. Upgraded to a Samsung 22" 226BW. Is this card worth going for over a GTS or GT?

Depends on price. You can get a GT for £117 on ocuk - a steal.

Probably not worth the extra for the GTS which the cheapest is £158. For almost 30% more money you won't get 30% better performance - more like 10%.

As always when spending more money on a card, the gains don't always match the extra money.
