GTS 450 vs 6850

Hello,

I'm about to build a new Windows 7 PC, pretty much solely for racing games.

It's going to be an Intel i3-2100 machine for playing netKar Pro, Race On, rFactor. I'm hoping it'll be future proof to at least some degree.

I really don't have any idea about graphics cards. I've listed 2 below that have been recommended to me. I prefer the first because it's cheaper and money is tight, but I don't want to spoil the machine by going too substandard.

Might be easier to just tell us what the cards are, or link to Overclockers site.

A HD 6850 murders a GTS 450 as you would expect for the price difference:

A closer comparison is a HD 6850 with a GTX 460:

You can get a GTX 460 here:

If you get a GTX 460 get the 1GB version.

Between the HD 6850 and the GTX 460 it's a pretty close call.

The GTS 450 is, relatively speaking, laughable. Basically what Surveyor said.

Yes, the 6850 is vastly superior. At the moment though, I'd probably go for the Sapphire 5850. Multi-card scaling and tessellation performance is slightly lower than that of the 6850, but what a deal it is...
