GTS 640 Upgrade path?

With all these new cards around lately I've got the urge to upgrade my GTS 640. The new ATI cards look very tempting but would the 4850 be a decent upgrade or would I have to get a 4870 to see a good improvement?

Or, as I have a SLI capable mobo would picking up another GTS on the cheap be a good move? I've not really seen much about these cards in SLI.

I only game at 1280x1024 but will be getting a new monitor pretty soon, probably a 22" widescreen so it'll have to cope with that as well.

Decisions, decisions. It's great after having the GFX market stagnant for so long. :D

If you can get a good price for your GTS then when you upgrade your display, a 4850 would be a good choice and at a reasonable upgrade cost.

I have the same card as you at the moment (near enough anyhow) and I'm not planning on upgrading as I'm also stuck at 1280x1024.

You would see a pretty large increase on the 4850, and then another increase with the 70.

At your current res I would probably get the 4850, but the 4870 may be better for the 22".

Well they are cheap and getting cheaper every day and I would be tempted to try it in your shoes.

The 640Mb GTS wasn't that far behind a GTX so two in SLI ought to give you some cracking performance figures when SLI works right in a game.

If you get one, post some results.

If your not happy you can always sell both of yours on for little loss and then buy a 4850 or 4870.

Yeah, I'm kinda coming round to that idea, as you say I can always sell em on and add a little extra for a new card. Any idea if the Corsair 520 will supply enough juice for SLI'd GTS's?
