Hey guys.

So my Spec is..

-> Q6600 @ 2.4ghz
-> 4gb 1066Mhz
-> nForce 780i
-> Vista x64

--

Going Nvidia and SLi (2 or 3way)

Not overclocking the GPU's

i know the D2E's are coming out in several months... but when does anythinh meet deadline... and i would probably wait a while for them to go down in price... So lets leave them out this convo..

---

2 x 8800 GTX (G80) - ty yant
2 x 8800 GTS (G92)

---

lets say, for instance, my aim is to run CRYSIS on 1680x1050 with FULL DX10 setting on extreme or very high or whatever the game calls it and AA on.

I will not be running ANYTHING at a higher resolution on screen that 1680x1050

I will want to be using Blu-ray and HD video, so taking that into account on the cards..

8800gtx is not g90 it's g80 btw.

and my rig in sig, I run at 1680x1050 #, most things on very high, and some things on high, no AA, and I get about 30-35fps.

From your needs it sounds like 2 gts are the way to go. :)

they have the revised vpu and should cope with that res fine while being cooler than the gtx and using less power.

Yes, look at what i said he needed to do, he used to have 2 of the older GTS cards and they could not always handle what he wanted to do.. the insurance paying for this new comp.. and he wants to go with better SLi cards.

He really need the 10000RPM and will be running stripe, saving money not going solid state and dont need masses of space.

PSU isnt overkill if we still go 3 x GTX's.. Which is what this thread is to decide..

fair points.

ok, well i think 3way is probly overkill atm, you could always ad another one later. and the bencies ive seen dont seem to have a massive increase in fps considering the extra you pay.

no current hardware will play crysis totally maxed with highest quality settings. not even 3way sli and a heaveily oc'ed q6600 and 8gb ram will play it very well.

what i am thinking :) thanks yant, gonna go find this page i had before, will edit shortly.

Yea, we dont need masses of space because he will be grabbing the models and whatever it is he works with off the server to play with in 3DMax2008.... they then go back on thier to for security.

Bare in mind still, we only want 1680x1050 resolution.. from this site, the 3-way gets 61FPS on higher Resolution than we will be running for Crysis... granted with ultra's.. ( and yea, dont wanna go there ):P

yes but considering you're paying nearky 1k in total (plus bigger psu etc..) just to max out one game when £300 will max out every other game for the next year. is it wort it for one game?

not just for the game, i think he is gonna play it, but more along the lines of his work, considering its a work PC for home use.

was a request that it would be good enough to play Crysis at that resolution, that made him confident it would have enough power.

i meant it will come to nearly 1k just for the gfx cards. he doesnt need that much graphics power for anything else other than gaming.

if you have money to burn then go for it, but personally i have better things to spend money on than thousands on PCs.

So, i think, the question now is... back to the title :)

This Basket -

Which will perform better with games and 3dmax2008 at 1650x1050
AND
Which will perform better with the Blu-ray and HD video's that will be played ( that item still be to be added to basket)

Dont worry about the price in that decision, just what will perform better please, i still am not sure about the G92's.. better in some ways, but the ways i want?:)

Good job the pc is his and not yours then.
Some people are willing to spend that much, some people are not. :)

Ya, the insurance company from his workplace is paying :D

and tbh, i am now tempted to upgrade my gaming comp, which is a HD2900 when they first came out in May:).. but not 3-way SLI in that case. hehehe... That will be another thread !:D

the GTS is to limited by the 256bit interface. whilst the GTX and Ultra have a 512bit interface.

i thought they had a 384 bit interface.

and i thought we agreed about going 2 x GTX (G80) or 2 x GTS (G92). :P

either way there interface is somewhat limiting, and I would say 2xgtx but you said money was in plenty, so why not 3?

if its between 2xgts/gtx i'd say gtx, but tbh, it all seems ott, if i were you i'd get a 24" monitor to go wit that.

and btw that ram is way overkill, just get some cheaper 6400 2x2gb set, like the OCZ gold series stuff.

Kk, thx for all the help & info... think am still gonna go with the GTX's then... and... perhaps get the 3rd bought if this thing isnt powerful enough...

Yeh, a 24" sounds nice, ill recommend it definatly..

Now think about upgrading my computer, this PC is making me druel :P

Thanks again, and Merry Xmas Yant!
