GTS512MB on X38 - External Power Required?

Just bought a GTS 512MB and asus maximus formula X38 pcie board.

Would a GTS 512MB on a PCIe 2.0 motherboard require an external power connector from the psu, or will the board supply the correct amount of power?

yes the gts 512 is the new G92 variant and is specedd as pcie 2.0.

not a major issue but it would have been nice if the board could have supported it alone - looks like theres 0 chance of that.

someone mentioned that there are two types of external gpu power '6 and 8 pin.' does a corsair hx 520 have both? cos thats whats on its way to me. is there now a standard for gpu external power moving forward.
