Hi guys new to this forum.

I have a gigabyte gtx 1050 ti windforce oc 4gb

I've noticed in gaming it boosts the core clock just above 1900mhz I've read that Nvidia says the GPU is capable of well over 1900 I can get a liquid cooler for around 80 pounds and try to push it above 2000 or spend a few hundred on another card, I I just spent 200 on a gtx 1660 oc 6gb that I noticed was running at similar clock speeds and I only gained several FPS! so I gave it to my son.

Would be greatfull for any advice please.

Ok thanks, I'm looking at a gigabyte RTX 2060 8gb oc model, my TV native Res is 3840x2160 It says 2k-4k so I'm unsure if it's actually 4k. I would like to see 60 FPS my display is only 60hz anyway.

What are people's experiences with such a card please, I'm guessing it's in the mid range possibly?

You mean 2060S 8GB because not 2060 because the latter only has 6GB model, yes?

If so, hell no. For less money you buy a RX5700XT which is far better card, especially at 4K.

FWIW I have an MSI 1050Ti. IMO WC would be a waste, I've run it a little over 1.3V and the fans cope just fine. You can hopefully hit 2k on stock voltage which is something like 1.118V. While I can get up to 2100MHz on 1.2V, using 1.3V makes no difference. For GBP 80 I would think you could get a second hand 1060 6GB which would offer more performance than water cooling a 1050Ti although you might want something stronger than the 1060. Also watch out for table changes with memory OC otherwise higher clocks at certain points will result in lower performance.

Hang on a minute, did you say you had a GTX 1660? That should be quite a bit faster than your 1050ti.

If you weren't noticing much improvement then something is wrong or your CPU is becoming a bottleneck...

No, he said he is looking at "gigabyte RTX 2060 8gb oc model"

If he had basically no improvement moving from a 1050ti to 1660 then the rest of his system is either badly configured or has a major bottleneck someplace else.

Exactly what I meant.

However, after re-reading the OP, I noticed they may play at 4K, so although faster the 1660 still wouldn't be giving playable frame rates at 4k. Without knowing the rest of his PC spec it's hard to make a suggestion

Absolutely do not waste 80 pounds on a liquid cooler for a budget card.

If you only gain 'several more' frames, I am going to take a guess that you either have settings way too high and going over the memory limits OR MORE LIKELY.. your CPU is simply not capable and you are being CPU limited.

Also.. drop your TV's res to 1080P (1920*1080). There is zero point having such a level of cards (budget) you are considering to make render at that level.

Thanks for all the responses, yea I did upgrade to a gtx 1660 but didn't notice a lot of difference,my system is quite old I must admit! I'm running dual Xeon x5650 on a hp workstation board with 16gb ddr3 1333 non ecc, 1tb raid sas hard disks and a 1.2kw psu. I did upgrade to a amd ryzen3 system but the performance seemed more like a down grade! Also changed to a i7 system a while back but again it didn't perform as well! When I change my resolution to 1080 the picture quality is awful tbh even on a smaller monitor. From what I've read and a few tests I've done I can't really notice the difference once the frame rate tops 30fps, I can achieve this with my card but! It's the constant drops below 30 that I would like to iron out.

Someone I know has just offered me he's old card a titan RTX 24gb but he wants 500 for it and he says it's a waste of time putting it in my system? Tbh I really don't wanna spend that much, but I've looked them up and they are triple the price new! It's a offer that's seems to good to be true?

I don't know, he said the old one is a 24gb Nvidia titan I may have looked up the wrong card online, I've not seen it yet, I just thought it sounded to good to be true, he doesn't game he uses it for something else that requires a lot of GPU power something to do with currency?
