GTX 1060

It's easy to see what nvidia are doing with this Founders Edition. With each Founders card they have effectively moved up the price of every tier. Sure they bring in a standard priced card that's lower but in reality most cards come in at Founders and above prices. I think it will be the same case here with most cards priced around the FE at $299 and above.

Sure it might be better Perf/watt but i doubt the Flanders Edition will be better Perf/$ as i expect the nitro to be faster if that Firestrike score is anything to go on.

Well it would be if you compare a ref to aftermarket lol there are other options you know not just the options that will benefit the point you are attempting to make ;) If we compare ref to ref its probably even worse for AMD but we shall see from the benchmarks.

Nice to see some more competition in the market - hopefully there will be a little price war between AMD and Nvidia.

- RX 480 RRP of $199/$239 is the same as previous gen 380/380X

- GTX 1060 RRP is $249-$299 compared to $199 RRP for the previous GTX 960

The price war would only result in the 1060 being lowered in price since it's RRP is above the price of the previous 960 and almost the same as the gtx 970 ($329 RRP). Having said that I think AMD also has a bit of leeway and could reduce prices further if needed.

Nvidia fans on here are rejoicing at this launch of the 1060 but none of the usual suspects will buy the card anyway. Why would anyone pay $249 (£250?) for a 3GB 1060 when it will probably only be between a 970 and 980 in performance but with even less VRAM. Nvidia has basically moved the 960 segment up to the 970 segment in pricing which is pathetic and a sign of things to come if AMD leave the gpu market.

All my point is from what we know the Nitro will cost £249.99 here at OCUK or at least that's what Gibbo said. This is looking to cost upwards of that at this time if the pricing is like the gtx1070 where most cards are around the founders editions $299. I am comparing what you get for your money so not going at some view point. Sure i might get a surprise and you can pick up a decent cooler for the gtx1060 at £250 but i am not holding my breath.

Well $249 equates to £229 inclusive of VAT at todays exchange rate. Add on a bit for shipping and handling and these should be around the £250 mark.

To be fair, American Cards have shipping and handling costs involved too no? So technically the $249 isn't including the shipping and handling costs... so we shouldn't add it this side.

That perhaps they have not sold as many of their overpriced higher end cards as they hoped so to counter AMDs cheaper offering they are knee jerking and pulling the better chip to cut it down and provide it at the lower end just to compete for sales there?

Or, as has been stated in a few places, they are having bad yield issues so have a lot of chips that they cannot use as the 1070, so are disabling 2 of the 4 GPC units on GP104 to sell it as a 1060 instead. Considering that GP106 has 2 GPC units for the full die.

Thats actually what i meant in my poorly worded explanation, what i actually meant was they want to sell the 1070 / 1080 but cant produce the chips fast enough and are getting a lot of waste which they will cut down for the 1060..

If you suddenly see a ton of stock for this card i think that will pretty much acknowledge this point, if theres hardly any stock of the 1060 either, i would imagine the issues they have are even worse.

Why would anyone pay $299 (£250-£300 ?) for this when it will probably only be between a 970 and 980 in performance which could be had for the same price 2 years ago. In fairness, you ranting like this in an NVidia 1060 thread is a bit over the top. These will sell like hotcakes, as will the 480. I like the discussion as well, regardless of buying or not buying and that is what the basis of a forum is. You calling people NVidia fans is fine though and I know many of those and I know many AMD fans and they have a tendency of going into threads and never ever looking at the good points and will only see the bad. That is the sad part about it.

the funniest part is the founder edition :D even for mainstream cards, and all this talk about price, i will save you time and just calculate from 299$, because that will be the average price not 249$ MSRP unicorn.
i thought ppl would have understood the purpose of founder edition by now.

No idea. I work in shipping however at a level of taking containers off the ships by operating the ship to shore cranes. That is as far as I get to knowing what is what with how shipping works.
