GTX 1060

Hmm that 3dmark link, neither of those records are available on the search, the 480 score would be the highest, but only by 459 points so very much feasible, but the NVidia score is not searchable, well I couldn't find it anyway. But a tad underwhelming if it is what it says it is.

Interestingly the name on the GTX1060 submission is the first name of one of the reviewers on Hexus. Hmmm.

Some of the AIB GTX1060 cards apparently have SLI connectors on them.

OFC,I don't see the point of spending £500 on a pair of RX480 or GTX1060 cards, when you might as well spend a bit more and get a GTX1070 or GTX1080.

true, but if you're a gamer and all you want is a card which doesn't cost the world and is good enough then this could be it.

The only reason I wanted a top end card was for VR, without that, I would have definitely considered a 1060. Plus SLI is not my thing anyway :)

This is gonna kick the 480's ass, and if it price matches it then game over AMD! they'll sell these in the thousands and thousands

You gotta admire some peoples confidence...
If it does that would be great, more performance for similar money but some of us are more cautious.

Typical Nvidia fans be like....

My main worry is the hype train - the major unknowns tend to big the top end cards of a new generation, but once you get those, its quite easy to estimate performance of the lower end cards from there onwards.

If you looked at the last couple of generations, both AMD and Nvidia have been within 10% of each other with midrange cards, and I expect it is going to be more of the same. This is from owning mostly what would be considered the midrange gamers cards from the last decade or so.

Lol at people complaing about price. 2+ just from this page alone.

You don't complain at Audi selling the same specced car as Skoda or VW for 1.5 times the price for the same product (they are just wrapped up slightly differently).

That's a ridiculous comparison; when you buy an Audi you're (usually) paying for a better product, superior build quality, more refinement etc. I own a SEAT Leon, but I'm not deluding myself into believing that it's an A3 with an S on the grille instead of some circles.

can you seriously not give it a rest? the whole forum is full of crap like this, do we really need to do it here as well?

I am actually trying to be sensible regards the performance amidst all the usual Nvidia supremistis or are you blind to see others spout such stuff out and target someone just interested in buying the best product whichever it will be.

If indeed the 1060 is better then thats what I will buy...

it's the "typical Nvidia fan" part which rubs me the wrong way.
As far as I am concerned you can buy whatever you want, but for once it would be good to focus on a card and what we know about it and nothing else.

I am here for the technical part not to watch the same worthless crap being repeated over and over. There's no value in that whatsoever. Anyway, let's get back on topic.

I have focused on the card from a perspective as a potential customer.
Shared several videos and links and contributed my fair share to the discussion here. I am not brand bias and have highlighted several times I find the situation of this card and the RX480 as one that is fascinating. It more than likely will be a close fought battle and THAT is good for consumers.

If you want to point fingers at people then perhaps target those making absurd claims before we even get to see reviews or comparisons.

Yeah... no....

Not looking too good for the 1060 tbh

The 480 is also using the older driver Crimson 16.6.2.
The newer 16.7.1 added another 3% performance and firestrike gained an extra 400-600 points.

Even a stock 480@1266MHz is matching the 1060@1900MHz
If those drivers are old you can add another 300 points to the score.

Some people are saying the 1060 is stock but even if it is, how much more headroom can it have when the 1080/70 top out at around 2100MHz? How much more performance does 200MHz extra give for Pascal?

Thats the thing - look at the specs of the GP106. It has half the shaders of the GP104. It only has 60% of the memory bandwidth and 3/4 of the ROPs.

If it is to hit GTX980 level speeds,it would be around 2/3 of a GTX1080:

https://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1080/images/perfrel_1920_1080.png

Hence,it probably will boost quite highly out of the box to compensate for the lowish shader count, and with such a low TDP why shouldn't it do?
