So my graphics card from 2016 died after a good run. Prices are through the roof and most cards are out of stock. I'm not interested in surpassing the 1070 for now as all my other gear is outdated too and was wondering if I went on a hunt in second hand shops for a card that could provide what the 1070 was doing can anyone recommend a card to look out for?

A 980 Ti would be around the same performance and they're less-scalped than other cards at the moment, generally selling for ~£250 and pretty freely available.

any warranty left on the card and what happened to the 1070

I think it was a false alarm - or a sign of things to come. The connection completely cut out and the LED wasn't visible, I took it out and used the onboard graphics just to make sure everything else worked and wasn't my monitors. I then took apart everything and cleaned it and refitted and the 1070 powered up again and I can use it. But I hadn't touched the interior of the PC for a while I didn't give it a reason to cut out. It is nearly 5 years old there's no warranty left.

AMD 5600xt is a reasonable price, for todays market, at a 2nd hand shop but they don't seem to get many of these or vega in stock, probably as people could get more 2nd hand on an auction site. They had a nvidia 2060, 2nd hand the other day for a fair bit cheaper than new
