Hi all,

I've been looking to upgrade my EVGA GTX 1070 FTW as it's beginning to struggle a bit in some games, I play on a 34" ultrawide at 2560x1080. I'll possibly jump to 1440p in future but not in a huge rush to do this at the moment. Budget is ~£400 as I'm getting married shortly and in the middle of renovating a house :D Is it worth jumping to an RTX 3060 TI or waiting for the lower end 4000 series to come out? Would like something fairly quickly.

Thanks!

Have I posted this. I'm getting married in 6 weeks and my house is being renovated.

It'll likely be the middle of next year before any 4000-series mid-range cards come out, and they'll probably be priced ridiculously anyway. The 3060 Ti Founders Edition is permanently in stock these days and at £369 is a solid enough deal. The other new options at ~£400 are the 6700 XT, which is faster if you don't care about ray tracing, or the A770 if you want to beta test one of those. Could also wait a couple of days and see what AMD announce on Thursday, though that'll probably only be high-end stuff too.

Yeah, I keep seeing things online on Nvidia announcing the mid range and lower end cards in January but who knows what they'll cost and what their availability will be like.

The 3060 TI FE has been out of stock on Nvidias website for a few weeks now as I've been monitoring them, back in stock now though.

Ha! We are in the same predicament. I too am on a GTX 1070 and I'm looking to upgrade.

It's looking like the best quick deal out there at the moment is the 3060ti FE via nVidia direct. I don't think I'll be able to afford any of the new cards anyway as I'm still on a Ryzen 3600 and B450 motherboard that I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon.

My main goal is to run No Man's Sky to a point I'm maximising the use of my 34" Ultrawide (3440x1440) @ 144hz. At the moment it's see-sawing at 30-65fps depending on what's on the screen, and that's with FidelityFX help.

Yep, it's a tough one. I'm also on a 3600X and B450.

I have a triple monitor setup for work with my 34" in the middle and a 27" on either side so moving all of those to 1440p would cost a fair amount to change over.

I'm kinda tempted just to buy a 3060 TI and call it a day but it's hard buying a 2 year old card at full retail price with new cards round the corner.

I went from a 1070 to a 3070FE and the difference has been huge. Seems the 3060ti is only maybe 10% slower than the 3070 so I would say it's a great buy for the price!

Nab a 3060ti FE as now available

I see no one has mentioned waiting for the AMD announcement soon? Do you need an Nvidia card?

It's very likely for AMD to also announce the higher end cards, and then the availability and all. I guess the 3060ti FE really is the most cost-efficient choice, even considering its SRP after 2 years.

There's the other option of waiting for Black Friday at the end of the month (the 24th IIRC).

The margin on video cards is so thin it would need big support from some of the manufacturers to see any significant discount.

Yep... RTX 3060TI FE definitely available and has been continuously for a number of weeks now :)
There wasn't for the last 2 weeks when I popped on to check every now and then.

Ah well, hopefully it's a decent upgrade and if the 4000 series turn out to be much better and availability is good I can probably shift this one on at not too much of a loss.

Same boat. 3440x1440 and on 1070.

I'd say wait and get your stuff out of the way, weddings are expensive (believe me I had two this year) then shift focus.
