GTX 1080 and coil whine

So, I recently picked up a 1080 during the sale on Overclockers, the Geforxe GTX 1080 IChill Air Boss x4 to be specific. The first one came with a bad fan that was catching, and coil whine. I RMA'd it, they sent me a new one, and it seemed to be fine. However, yesterday all of a sudden the new one started with coil whine too. Is this normal for 1080's? Or this particular card in general? I know it's not effecting performance, but it's really irritating.. My PC is on top of my desk next to my monitors, and I can just hear it screeching into my right ear, it's not very pleasant..

I read that it's really unlucky if you end up with a card that has coil whine, but I've had 2 in just over a week have it.
The only thing that I recently changed was my 250gb 840 Evo to a 500gb 860 Evo, and a reinstallation of Windows, it wasn't producing coil whine before that.
The motherboard is a ROG STRIX B350-F Gaming Motherboard and the PSU is a Sseasonic FOCUS 650W Gold Modular, including those as I've heard they can produce it too, but it definitely sounds like it's coming from the GPU to me.

I'm also aware that you can limit the FPS to 60, I briefly tried this just to check it out, it does work, but what's the point of having a 144hz Monitor and a powerful PC if you have to limit it's performance to 60FPS to prevent coil whine? :(

My Zotac 1080 Amp Extreme+ got coil whine after a week or so. Luckily mine is under my desk so can’t really hear it unless it’s really quite.

I don’t think it uncommon to get coil whine but 2 in a row is unlucky on your part. I’m not sure if OC replace for coil whine but if it is too much for you then your probably best giving them a call.

Gone through nearly every 1080Ti they all have whine, talking probably 10 cards in total. as well as 1080's which i used to have 2 of.

Probably the main reason i settled on my MSI gaming x as it has been the quietest so far.

Multiple systems, boards, power supplies. The main problem when you hear it is 120hz+ with max load on the card. 60hz and the cards are pretty silent.

Although its more mosfet whine than coil whine. Coil whine is high pitched screeching at hundreds/thousands of fps. Mosfet whine is buzzing that you get when the card/mosfet is under high load normally at a higher refresh rate.

DIYperks did a video on it once where he desoldered a choke which was silent vs the mosfet behind it which buzz.

As with joey moved my system under the desk and i can't hear it anymore. As well as being much quieter in general.

Loosen bit the screws on the left side of the card as you see it upside down (as you fit it in the case), to the right of the GPU but NOT the GPU screws. (don't touch also any screws with stickers on them)

That resolved the coil whine on the GTX1080Ti Xtreme, and the GTX1080 Armour (both air and with waterblock) and the V64 Nitro+ after watercooling the latter few weeks ago.
The Nitro+ has a faint coil whine now only if I OC the card and starts drawing 370W+. On Turbo settings (276W max) is dead quiet now, and never had the issue on Balanced (234W) or Power Save mode (176W) even when got it.

Is a common issue at high power consumption cards since the GTX780 era (5 years ago).
