I'm thinking about buying a 2nd hand 1080, preferably the FE. What do people think I should be paying for one on the second hand market? Or shall I hang on?

Assuming it's going be a worthy jump from my 780Ti @ 1400p trying to make best use of my G-sync 144hz monitor?

Value is a very subjective concept, personally when you consider an overclocked 980Ti is not far off a stock GTX 1080 and they can be had for £220 - £250 you have to question why you would spend £400 on a 2nd hand part especially with Vega coming out soonish. I would say around £350 is a fair price but others are bound to agree and disagree as they see fit. You also have to consider that the GTX 1080 is a good card but fundamentally overpriced so again "value" has to take this into account. Ultimately its worth what you are prepared to pay I'm afraid, if you want or need it now now now then price goes up bide your time and you get better value for your money.

Best post I have read on here for a while. Getting a 2nd hand 980ti and overclocking it to the max is the best upgrade from an older card. Especially considering it can be had for just over £200

Got mine for £215, best upgrade I've ever made.

I wouldn't be paying more than £380 for a top model imo when you can get a 980 Ti for just over £200 even more than £350 is hard to justify. Though if you need that extra grunt albeit 20-25% when both are overclocked then yea a cheap 1080 isn't a bad option I'm just laughing at people trying to sell them for £450 if I was paying that second hand I'd find the extra £260 and get a Ti

im trying to sell my card atm and the amount of low ballers is tremendous... the 1080 is a lot better than the 980 ti and imo is worth the extra .. stays cooler , has more vram , better vram tech , less power and about 20-25% faster I noticed a good difference on 3440x1440 going from a 980 ti kingpin to a founders 1080

given that a 980 ti is still a beast in its own right for the price

I have a 980ti classy and purchased a 1080 classy and when I tested them both at their max 100% stable overclock the 1080 was on average 10% faster and in some games there was zero difference and i'm on a 3440x 1440 screen too. Then it got sent back for a refund 1080 classy.

So you either had a faulty 980ti kingpin or user error to be getting 25% better performance from the 1080 compared to your 980ti kingpin.

Now waiting for the 1080ti classy to check again but if that shows not a real world 50% better it is going back for a refund too.

What's niggling me is that my 780Ti cost me £250 from a deal on here Gibbo did around the time the 970 was released. The market is so inflated at the moment. I can't go red team as I have G-sync and Shield TV.

I got mine for £220. upgraded from 780 ti and the difference is massive. highly recommend buying second hand 980 ti because you can get it for really decent money when compared with cards of similar performance.
