GTX 1080 Ti Questions

So i have a few questions regarding my upcoming purchase.

1. I've read around and found most Ti hit their OC limit around 2000-2100 mhz core. Is that true and mean the cheapest 1080 Ti will do the same job compared to the more expensive ones.

2. My 1070 gigabyte highest oc is 2126 mhz but throttles down to 1950 mhz unless i keep fan speeds above 70% and temps below 60. Would a hybrid 1080 Ti solve this issue or would i be better off saving the cash?

3. I currently have a AX 760 with a 5820k OC to 4.6 ghz. If I were to purchase 2 in SLI which PSU would i need to upgrade to?

4. Would my cpu bottleneck them in SLI @ 1440p/165hz. (Just making sure)

5. Is it even worth it to SLI @ 1440p/165hz?

TIA!

1. Its very much silicon lottery, but as long as the cooler is solid, then yes you can usually get the most out the 1080Ti. So your Strix, MSI Twin Frozer, EVGA FTW etc.

2. Yes under water you can usually maintain a higher consistent boost clock speed, but solid air cooler's can hold pretty solid clocks also.

3. Under heavy loads and overclocked, yes you may go over 760 watts.

4. Yes and no, CPU bottle necking is not a clear yes and no answer. Some games may be more CPU heavy, in other cases it may be the GPU's that hold you back.

5. I would walk before you run so to speak, so get a single 1080Ti and see how it performs for your need. If you then find that your limited in the GPU department, then possibly look at SLI. Just be aware of the Pro and mostly con's of SLI and supported list of games: https://www.geforce.co.uk/games-applications/technology/sli Though for most the part a 1440p 144hz panel / Gsync + 1080Ti is a nice combo.

All 1080 Ti's perform much the same, the key is keeping them cool.

The 1080 Ti (all other Pascal cards too) has the same sort of overclocking potential as the 1070, most won't reach 2126mhz but they will get close to it. A hybrid would help to maintain high clockspeeds over extended gaming sessions.

Not worth bothering with 1080 Ti SLI as there are not that many new games that make good use of it.

4. Would my cpu bottleneck them in SLI @ 1440p/165hz. (Just making sure)

You may find it difficult to hit 165fps in some games as drivers suck regardless of what CPU/GPU combination you use. Having said that a 5820k @4.6 is a good setup, even if you upgrade to the latest CPU you will only gain a few fps.

5. Is it even worth it to SLI @ 1440p/165hz?

See how you get on with a single 1080 Ti and only consider SLI if the games you play support it with good scaling.

TIA!

Alright so ill get one 1080 Ti for now to power my PG279Q. As for my PSU, is 760W enough to OC both CPU + 1080 Ti?

If you were to go sli you would need to get a better PSU. 850 W minimum depending on overclocks, but 1000 W would be ideal with a decent amount of headroom.

But SLI support is getting worse now, so not recommended.

So 2 of the 1080 Tis caught my attention with both models being significantly cheaper (around $150). Asus Turbo 1080 Ti and Zotac 1080 Ti AMP Edition. Or should i get the 3 fan configuration instead?

Avoid the ASUS Turbo model. As mentioned, pascal is all about cooling and that is where outside of certain situations, blower style coolers like the ASUS Turbo model fall behind. The Zotac Amp edition is a solid cooler, not as good as some larger cooler's, but your not talking about that far behind and not $150 worth of difference.

I've also read some reviews that the card runs extremely hot; requires 100% fan speed to keep it below 80 C. Seems like quite a large difference in temps compared to other 1080 ti that runs 60% fan speed around 70 C.

Review I had seen for it does not suggest temps that it takes the fan to run at 100% to stay below 80 degrees, but not to say its the most spectacular cooler around though: http://vrzone.com/articles/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-amp-edition-review/126139.html http://www.funkykit.com/reviews/vid...gtx-1080-ti-amp-edition-11gb-gddr5x-review/4/ so yeah, not an amazing cooler, but $150 is a fair saving depending on what your comparing it against and in those tests, even the poor one which seems to top out at a low fan RPM seems to have headroom, but I may not have seen the same reviews you have so I would say go for whatever you want, aside from blower if given the choice.

Picked up a EVGA SC2 Hybrid 1080 Ti for $675. Everything seems good so far, pushed the card to 120% power limit and so far stable @ 2050 core/6000 mem. For some reason i cant change the fan speed nor the pump in msi afterburner. Would you guys recommend push/pull for the radiator?
