GTX 1660 Super worth it for 1080?

Not a mega PC gamer but I do dabble (more Xbox for gaming). Want to upgrade my 1060 and do not want to spend a fortune so was looking at the GTX1660 Super that can be had for the £220 mark. Want to stay with NVidia since it works better with none game applications like Adobe.

Makes sense? Or am I way off?

Is it for the rig in your specs or another one?

The 1660S is a fantastic 1080P card and a good jump over a 1050, if you're running a 6GB 1060 however I'm not sure if I'd bother.

Hi, yes it is the system in the sig. The MSi 1060 I have works perfectly, - Sorry I typed it wrong in initial thread that i have now corrected.

Not worth it really, IMO. An upgrade, yes, but personally I'd be looking for more of a jump in frames than that.

I suppose if you can factor in the return from selling your 1060 then it's not so bad, but I still would be looking for a bit more of a performance boost than that.

It would be an reasonable but incremental upgrade from a 1060, the 1660 Super is similar to a 1070.

Yeah, I temporarily had a 1660 Super to help troubleshoot my new build and it was around the same level as my 1070 (slightly below the 1070). Not sure it would be a massive upgrade from the 1060. Probably worth waiting for the new cards and try to pick up a used bargain from the 20- series.

offer them £249 for this

actually got one to replace my son's 1060 6gb and compared them in 3d Mark and the increase was brilliant for 1080p gaming, quite surprised at the difference. Cant remember which game I tested too but remember it went from like 75fps to around 99fps at 1080p. Maybe it was SW BF II.

Was yours the same model?

I've heard those single fan versions can get noisy.

If going B-Stock I'd be more tempted to put an offer in for this personally:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £258.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

Shame the OP is stuck with Nvidia.

I had a spare Arctic Cooler I was going to put on it but decided not too in the end its no louder than the case fans in my sons PC, keeps it cool too which surprised me. His was the Palit 2060 (got it for £199 down from £249). My other son still has his Gigabyte 1060 6gb and comparing the two the 2060 runs quieter and cooler. Could do with another 2060 to replace the 1060 but cant really afford it at the moment. Maybe if they drop sub £200 again might be able to.

Its worth delving into the B grade options now if you want to take a punt.

Not bad.

The 2060's don't put out a lot of heat anyway so assuming your case has good airflow I suspected the single slot fans would be decent enough. There's a lot of people claim otherwise, but that could be PEBCAK more than anything as is often the case.

If I had the funds to spare right now I'd honestly be putting in a cheeky offer on that Vega 64, B-Stock is absolutely worth a punt at times.

No point changing a 1060 for a 2060.

The best value card right now is a used 1080 Ti from MM xD.

That aside prices on 2070 Super's should drop sharpish as of next week. Might find some bargains.

2070S is the best bang for buck brand new card right now. Wait for a price shakeup of 2XXX series as Nvidia roll out the massively price hiked 3XXX series.
