GTX 260 Cooling

What is wrong with the stock cooler? it's very quiet and the gpu remains cool.

Sounds like the cooler's not making proper contact with the gpu. My original 260 is incredibly quiet - even after a few hours gaming.

In your position i'd probably just remove, clean, reapply thermal paste and reseat the cooler.

How new is the card? Any dust in the cooling fins?

Check what speed the fans are running at. I think GPU-Z will tell you that. The EVGA Precision tool should also let you adjust the fan speed and check temps.

+1. I've been playing GTA4 for the past couple of hours now and the card hasn't increased in noise at all, the RPM has to increase by about 50 to keep it in check!

My old Evga 260 was exactly the same with any game i played on it too.. I would try reseating the cooler. You're gonna have to take it off to put on a new one anyway!
