gtx 260 or ati 4890?

Biased reply. I've got a 4890.

It's pretty close but I think the 4890 edges it.

Considered the 5770 for a future crossfire setup? 1 now will hold its own for a year, the second will be cheap as chips and together they get some pretty sexy performance. :)

The 4890 would be the better option out of them 2 , but if you are going to upgrade in a years time why spend more than you have to on a card , what are you using it for? if its just for gaming i would personaly get the 5770 to tide you over till then is cheaper and has support for dx11 but up to you i spose

when i upgrade in about a years time, i will be buying a higher end direct x11 gpu so i dont want to crossfire 2 5770's, so at the minute a 4890 or gtx 260 is probably quicker

and worth buying another one for xfire in the future.

But if you HAVE to have either a 4890 or a 260 I would 100% say the 4890.

BTW how many of these threads are you going to open? Is this not like the 5th in a week or 2??

no its only 2, one about the gtx 260 core 216 and one about the standard version

Ah I see...

4890 still for both

I honestly wouldn't just dismiss the 5770 though. I understand that you will upgrade to one of the better 5800/5900 series later on but I wonder if a 5770 would be easier to sell in a year or so than the 4890

4890. but the 5770 would be a very good choice!! low power consumption, power nearing the 4890, but you could overclock it. and who knows it may pass the 4890 with a driver update. oh and its DX11 and a very nice price! and will be very resellable in the near future. certainly better than the 4890!

Lol @ the 5770 pushing :)

4890 > 260 > 5770

That's at current drivers, the 5770 has some ground to be gained and will most likely edge over the 260 though I don't expect it to pass the 4890.

Ok thanks guys, i think i was being a bit crazy earlier, i hadn't looked at any of the benchmarks really, i am ordering my PC tomorrow and i will almost definitely be going for the ati 5770. thanks for all your help, i should be able to get some pictures up when its built!
