Gtx 260 squealing?

Well I have the Black edition, and no noise..

Even though you read that this happens, I would not be happy with a card that did it.

So your call

IMO rma

No. its a pig. Updating the drivers increases fan speed and sucks the pig into it...

Theres an entire thread about it somewhere...think its called...

" ***URGENT*** HELP! - Pig Stuck In 260 GTX *** URGENT*** "

something liek that...have a search for it.

The squealing appears to be a result of high data throughput.............

If I have Vsync off, the card will squeal when the FPS goes way up over 100, but stops again as the framerate drops to something more normal, despite the card being under the same (ie max) loading in either situation. Put vsync on, and it never ever ever makes a squeal, even if it's being battered down to 4FPS by the load being put on it. While Vsync is enabled the card only ever shrieks during things like game intro's where the GPU is active but somehow vsync is not engaged (eg, the nvidia logo on the crysys intro). You can also run something like furmark at 1920x1200 with X amount of squeal, and then drop the res fo 640, and even though the load is identical (again...full) you'll get more screaming.
The fact the people report it when folding tallies with this.

So, as long as the games you're playing are running well over 60fps (and I'm willing to put cash on it that they are), shove your vsync on and they'll look better (100fps can look quite odd on a 60fps screen, and of course the card being right at the limit doesn't do much for it's consistancy), your squealing will stop, and your card will be happier and cooler. (and you can then start messing with the IQ options to see that you can get away with without dropping below 60fps (framerates under but close to 60 can look very jerky with vsync as some frames have to be "held" for two screen refreshes).

If you are getting squealing with low FPS, then it may be another issue.

I was getting this on my 4870 earlier when benching CSS to compare to a friend with - caps squeling but averaged 540fps so.....

...if it does do it i dont notice in game - its either speakers turned up or got my cans on
