GTX 275 temperature issue

Hello guys,

I just received a BFG GTX 275 OC 896 yesterday, as the RMA replacement of my previous GTX 260.

Regarding to the temperature of GPU, the 275 could reaches a peak temperature of 94C with an average of 86C, when I was running COD5 (WaW) and Devil May Cry 4 with full effect on.

I recorded the data using GPU-Z, and drew a graph of GPU temperature and Fan speed(%). I noticed several things:
1. Most of time when the GPU is loaded, the temperature is around 85C with several peaks of (>90C).
2. As I use nVidia default driver, hence the fan speed is adjusted by the driver automatically. When the GPU temperature is between 80C and 89C, the fan speed is around 55% to 60%.
3. Once the GPU temperature exceeds 90C, the fan speed increased dramatically to about 85% to bring the GPU temperature down quickly.

My concerns:
1. Is it safe for the card running in this situation?
2. From the behaviour of the GPU temperature and fan speed, my conclusion is the default nvidia driver intends to keep the GPU temperature at 85C and prevent it exceeds 90C. Do you agree?

Thanks in advance!

94c......Thats great as that means my two GTX 275 cards should help keep my room a little warmer through winter...:)

Its fine, the cards throttle back at above about 105*C to protect themselves, 90 is well within limits. The drivers are setup to do what you suggest, as there is no need fro anything more, it also keeps the card quieter but hotter. If you are really concerned then up the fan speed manually.

An RMA may be refused as it is within design spec.

Thanks very much, Vertica.
