Hi,

Just bought and installed a new BFG gtx 280 for my system, and everything seemed to be running fine until I got a BSOD when i tried to shut the PC down one day. Vista claimed the fault was due to my onboard realtek ethernet (as part of my IP35 pro mobo), and suggested some updated drivers to install. So, I installed the drivers...everything seemed to be going fine again until I got another BSOD during windows after just having played Crysis. This time vista blamed it on an Nvidia Graphics Driver and a "Video Hardware Error".

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of this as a common driver problem, or if perhaps it is due to the gfx card hardware itself? Or perhaps an issue with the Motherboard? I never ever got a BSOD during the whole year that I had my rig with my old gfx card.

Whilst playing Crysis the game also occasionally freezes for 5 seconds (usually when a big explosion has just tore a building apart or something), and then continues on fine. Not sure if the 2 problems are related.

My spec:
E6850 @ 3.06ghz
Brand New Corsair 650W PSU
BFG OC GTX 280
IP35 Pro
4gb RAM

Thanks for any help guys.

What was your old card?

BFG 8800 GTS 320

never had any problems with it though.

edit: also I've monitored the temperatures of the gfx card and they seem to be fine...reaching around 70 during high load, staying at around 50-60 at idle

What sound card are you using? Do you have latest drivers?

Have you tried plugging in the Aux 4 pin molex above the 2nd PCI-E slot?

sound card is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1, and yeah i've got the latest drivers, and i've got the molex plugged in too.

cheers for any more help with this....so far it hasn't done it again but no doubt it'll pop up again.

Not had this on either of the two 280's i've had.
Try different drivers, or the latest BETA drivers. Also try the system non-overclocked.

You say you have a new PSU, that could be faulty...
