GTX 280 first impressions

Yeah I don't go by 3d marks scores, or superpi, just the app that I want to run faster (currently TF2).

rounddodger: what temp does your cpu run at btw? 3.6Ghz on a Arctic Freezer 7 is pretty good in my book.

Doubt you will see a GTX2. Have you seen how big the chips are?

Too complicated to make and too expensive. A GTX2 would really have to be a minimum of twice the price so around £800 and maybe £700 once they had one out.

Nvidia seem to be wanting people to go dual, tri and quad SLI in the future so they will just want you to buy two GTX280's or now they have their mix and match SLI driver out, you can now SLI with a GTX280 and a GTX260. Not sure why you would though. ;)

If they are able to share the data via the memory that would mean that they only need the 1GB, so that part won't be double the price.

Yeah I have quite a cool CPU thankfully! Idles around 28 degree C on both cores and under Orthos blend gets to around 59-61 under load.

Takes a lot of volts mind, 1.5v (iirc) on the bios but it's still cool so no harm done.

Is stable at 3.6 but run it usually at 3.5.

Damn, that's too bad, really was hoping for some good overclocking possibilites on this card :) Gonna have to wait for the 55nm for some real shader performance unless i get an ATI card.

New ati cards clock well ;) Massive aftermarker air coolers or waterblocks are going to be needed to get high clock on 280gtx i think.
