gtx 280 reviews thread

*links to Crysis benchies...*

I had access to one today, So i did some Crysis benching, The card is pretty disapointing and runs hotter than a GX2 lol

Thanks for the content :)

I'm interested in the minimum FPS results for the 280 vs the 9800GX2. Did you find that they compare in ratio (ie the GX2 has a slightly better minimum FPS than the 280), or was it reversed?

Also, I was wondering what the problem with 'run 10' was? On the 280 test it seems an abnormally low score, and even on the GX2 tests it seems somewhat out of place that it is beaten by the higher AA tests.

GTX and Ultra both beat a 9800GTX at 1920's with AA+AF, the G80 has more Rop's than a G92 and the 2 cards have more Memory and bigger Memory Interface.

Not in my experience. The GTX 9800 is generally faster than the 8800 GTX and the 9800 GTX overclocks like a demon.

Might want to have a look at the AnandTech review of the GTX 280. Shows comparisons against all the cards. I think you will be suprised.

Try this German one, has some clever coding to give percentages of all the cards against each other in both DX9/DX10.

Well many games need lots of power to run 1920's, but a GTX/Ultra can handle them with AA+AF if not the 1 badly coded game mentioned above (that patches dont fix and now are dropped from updates) or a few bad Console Ports.

If your on a 8800GTX/Ultra I would say skip these cards.

Those are pretty much my feelings at the moment, played GRID the other day expecting it to run like a bit of a dog but quite chuffed it ran sweet as a nut at high/4xaa 1080p. :P

Think I'll pass for now, maybe once the 280 comes down a bit maybe towards the end of the year and some new games are out that spank the ultra.

well right now i'm running off of 2x 7900gto's in SLi so i was waiting for a huge generation gap since they still handle practically all dx9 games with above average frame rates (i get ****** with the people bragging about their 200fps when their monitor only displays 60)

i most probably will be buying one fo these, but not until they fix the drivers and not until the price starts to decline. So i'm probably lookng to purchase around august / september time.

of course, if they DONT improve with driver releases over that time i may have to take an alternate solution. But i have an SLi mobo so i'll probably end up sticking with nVidia.

Looks like a 8800gtx SLI setup would be faster then a single GTX 280....

yeah same... cant justify spending £400 on a card which will herald less of a result then what ive got... spending £800 on 2 is just silly I'm afraid... I just want the 4870 to come and put me out of my misery and deliver decent results at a decent price, if so I'll gladly spend £500+ on a new mobo and Xfire cards... Roll on red wednesday
