Just installed my new GTX280 (Leadtek) and wanted to share/ask about temps you guys getting with these cards (stock cooling):

IDLE:
GPU: 40C
RAM: 39C
VRM: 38C

LOAD: (3DMark06)
GPU: 70C
RAM: 68C
VRM: 71C

These are temps shown by Everest 2007. Ati Tool showed 80C on GPU during 3DMark06.. Don't know which one is right...

Those are fine and almost identical to my own and others i've seen as well :)

(mine shows 80c under load using Rivatuner similar to your Ati Tool results)

No idea but i get the impression 80c is a target point for the card as when o/clocked & loaded the fan just spins up til temps hover at 80c or thereabouts. Mine idles @ 40% load on the fan and when underload goes up to 50 - 55% to keep it at 80c.

Played Crysis Warhaed today for a 20 minutes. COOL !!!! Max detials on 1920x1200 and running smoooooth. LOVE IT!

BUT!!! Question is - how loud are your fans during play guys? Mine is 100% of speed straight at the beginning! Temps are like 79C max for GPU and memory/VRM about 60C.

Oh. and that strange noise! My card s making strange noise in 3D - some kind of whisling... its louder that a fan

ok.. two days later.. desktop, watching movie with bestplayer.. GPU core temp=80C...
I turned the movie off and turned on ATITool and WinFox tool. Displaying ATI tool rotating "hairy cube" - after 10 seconds - GPU temp=105C...
I believe tomorrow morning is my RMA day.. right?

Look at ATItool and Everest temps... :(

ok.. I have uninstalled this WinFox software and no fan is on auto mode. Playing Warhead makes temps max about 80C, with fan on max 100%. So I believe that my card is ok, just cannot use manual for fan. That means one thing - card is so hot that there is no way to play on stock cooler. It has to be water cooled. it is too loud!

Well, I played more Crysis Warhead today... hmmm.. nice game..
So temps are 80-90C max when playing with fan 100% speed.
Idle, in desktop, card has ~45C and fan is at 40%. But running anything in 3D makes it sweat to 80-90C and fan starts to spin at 100%.
Is that normal? can someone please confirm that has same temps, speeds???

Im getting about 84'c in Warhead with the fan around 1200-1300. Other games don't stress the card at all with the fan staying silent with 70'c showing. Again using Everest.

All depends on the airflow in your case.

I don't have a case, its outside on desk...

Just run 3D Mark 06

Proxy 63'c, Fan 722, VRM 51, Memory 57
Fire 72'c , Fan 724, VRM 51, Memory 57
Boat 79'c, Fan 935, VRM 63, Memory 70
Snow 77'c, Fan 890, VRM 60, Memory 68

Idles 49'c, VRM 41, Memory 41

BFG 280 OC

If anyone's temps are hitting the 105c mark after a few minutes stress testing then I would certainly recommend them to RMA it. I was informed by the etailer that it was standard amongst all GTX280's but they would exchange it if I wanted them to.
My replacement BFG GTX280 OC never reaches 105c even after 10 minutes Furmark stress testing and functions at all the lower figures shown in the posts above. The only thing is, I cant overclock to anything like what other people are claiming to with their GTX280's.

From my experience the BFG OC runs hotter than most. Not sure if they are using a higher voltage but compared to my Leadtek the BFG uses 35 Watts more power for the same clock speed in the same game.

I ran FurMark today, full screen, 1280x1024, for 1 minute. Fan started to speed up after 30 seconds and was on 100% of speed after 45 second. When it finised after 1 minute only, GPU-Z showed max temp at 92C, where fan was at 100% speed...

EDIT:
Now I ran it for 2 minutes. Fan started to spin 100% after 20 seconds, after 2 minutes test I got 96C temps with 100% fan speed, which is sth like 3150.
Min fps 61, max 94.

I'm waiting to temps go down to idel and will start 3DMark06 again to measure temps after each test like The Asgard said...
