Hi Folks,
Well Iam on my second Gainward GTX280 card , the first one had to be
returned due to it over heating badly ( not even over clocked by the way )
This was within the first week of having it , so it was returned for a brand new replacement. 24/09/2008

Fast forward 2 months.... and

And last night I fired up a game of IL2 , I got the usual black screen as the game screen switched on ,
but the blackness didnt go away and the whole system locked up ( had to do a reset )

On normal system power up the GTX280 fan goes full tilt until it has woken up ,
this normally takes a couple of seconds and the fan throttles back.

Now when I power my system on the GTX280 fan goes to full speed but doesnt throttle back ,
there is no output on the LCD from the card.

I removed the card and stuck in an olde spare PCI card I have and the rest of the system seems fine ,
will post and boot ok , so Iam feeling its probably the card has gone to the great hunting ground in the sky.

I am going to try the gtx280 in my other system tonight , just to confirm it.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with their GTX280 ?

And has anyone had experience with Gainward RMA's , I am curious to know how long Iam likely to be without the card.

If its going to be weeks then I may have to by something to do in the mean time ( any ideas ?)

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

it sounds dumb...

but how are you connecting the power to your GTX 280?

are you using a single cable(rail) and connecting both Molex connectors into the 6pin pcie adapter? or do you have a dedicated 6pin pcie cable for that slot?

what I did was use 1 Molex connector from 2 different cables(rails), that way the adapter gets power from 2 sources rather than just 1 source two times.

i doubt this would be the cause of your problem, but i thought it was worth mentioning.
