Basically I want to overclock my 285 and I know how to do it its just I dont know what to do when I increase to core/memory to a point where my computer crashes, how would i return to default settings? will I be able to boot if card becomes unstable?

add each time +5mhz- than try gaming about 20-30min, if no crashes add other +5mhz... when I OC'ed my GTX280, could manage +50mhz on everything, when GPU was unstable Had artifacts during game,.. You should manage about +/- 50mhz-80mhz

If the overclock fails it will reset back to default clocks when you reboot afaik

thanks for the info mate but what happens on MSI afterburner if I overclock but I want the settings after I reboot if it is working so I dont have to keep changing settings but it fails then what?

You can save overclocking profiles in afterburner so you don't need to keep changing the frequencies.
