GTX 285 World of warcraft shadow problem <corruption?> [Solved]

[Solved - see post]

Sorry for the stupidly large image mainly taken up with white space...

So the above shows my problem. I have only noticed this shadow thing in Stormwind although i might have missed it in other places.

I can solve the problem by setting the shadows at 2 notches and the problem goes away - but it's just a bit of an insult to the GTX...
Everything else is on ultra with x8AA (i have changed this value and it made no diff)
System is Overclocked but i have tried underclocking it and tried a numerous amount of drivers which have made no effect.

I really wish there was a phone number i could call BFG on, as I have been waiting for a reply for 3 days now :o

System specs
GTX 285 OC edition
Q6600 3.0GHz
4GB Cellshock 1333MHz CL6
Blackops x48 Motherboard

To be honest mate i get problems with my 295 on some games too, sims 3 for instance whatever i do cant play that without fps lag, even on lowest settings!!! must just be nvidia eh

This is what I was thinking - Then after trying about 6 different driver releases and having the display driver crash all over the show...
A friend of mine has almost the same system with the only diff is he is running DDR2 and a 9600GT - Yes it is SERIOUSLY underpowered for crysis etc but it runs wow without any glitches and tbh thats the only game i have sat down to play in a long time.

That and a few RTS games which certainly dont need a GTX285 to run them :(
Al least folding on this thing is quick

yeah funny that cos i used to have an 8800gtx and it ran sims 3 perfectly, but my 295 wont!!! funny things nvidia cards lol.... runs other games like crysis, res evil 5. operation flashpoint dr, deadspace, grid, etc etc all on full everything but wont run sims 3 lol

I'll give it a shot lol :D
This is insane that I have to go back so far in terms of drivers...
If this doesn't work this thing is being RMAed again. So this will be the 2nd time I have had to do this.
Last time it was squealing unbearably when folding.

but wont run sims 3 lol
play a proper game and not a girly game
:p

joking joking XD

Revert back to the 186 series of drivers.

Right drivers installed.
Loaded up wow and it didn't make a difference
Guess there are two things
Either it's the card.
Or its the game.

What makes me think its the card is that win7 has popped up a few times saying that the desktop manager has suffered in performance and you need to lower your visual settings which are tweaked anyway!!!
If i go into the event log it says about video memory degradation...

And still no reply from bfg...

This happens to me with 2 x 4890's fella. with shadows on full :(

Like you i have to knock the shadows down to 2 notches up from the bottom.

I have a feeling its to do with setting AA and AF using drivers and also using the in game settings.

Its the game not your card.

At least thats some good news for you :D

Seriously, thanks for the reply. I wasn't looking forward to the whole rma experience again. The windows video settings thing i'll just ignore for now as i havent noticed any slowdown.

Again thank you! /thread
