Was building mates rig last night which has 2 gtx 295's in quad sli. Noticed the fan speed defaults to 40% on auto for the gpu's and they idle between 45 and 55. Twice as fast as the 5870 Crossfire setup, and 10 degrees hotter. Unwinder (guy who wrote Rivatuner) says the ADI chip on the 295's control the fan speed and the default is 40-40% which it stays at, doesn't change under load/temp unless card is in danger. So I installed MSI Afterburner and ran the Batman bench whith Physx set to high. Sure enough, the cards stayed at 41% despite GPU's hitting 75 degrees max.

Just wondering if anyone with a GTX 295 can comment on what the max safe temp is before throttling occurs. As for idle temps/fan speeds, obviously I will use Afterburner to lower than fan speed below 40% when idle as 40% is too noisy. 27% is virtually silent. Anyone know what is a safe temps to run 295's at when idle ?

On another note, has anyone also noticed their LCD stuck at 59hz in Windows 7 with this GTX's ?

Some friend you are! You actually let him buy 2 295s? One's bad enough. :o

75 Degrees is perfectly fine for loaded temps.

Yeah...he bought my 2 gtx 295's which were given to me by my brother. I went with 5870's :D

In fairness, I think they are impressive cards.....with physx at high is still getting 90fps+ average framerate on batman bench with all other settings maxed and 4x MSAA. While I have to go off and buy a 9800GT :( Pity the cards default to 40% fan speed. Last time I had an NV card (9800GX2 I think), they were known for good power management / quiet fans.
