GTX 295 - how noisy?

Firstly, I realise that noise levels are subjective and relative to your surroundings but if any of you could give me some comparisons it would be appreciated.

Can anyone give me some peronal experience with the noise levels of these cards? I've never fitted one before and it's always good to get a few personal impressions to get an overall picture.

I'm trying to build someone a quiet PC and he wants the 295. I'm tryng to source an EVGA so i could fit a third party cooler, without voiding the warranty, but i'm not having anyluck. Zero stock in all my trusted sites...

I'll keep on looking but i've only got a few days before i have to order - so if i don't find one how loud is the fan at idle speeds - when left to it's own monitoring control - and how loud does it get under load?

It will be going into a SIlverstone Fortress case - if that's of any use with for users using this card in a similar case.

I can't hear mine over my Tuniq Tower fan (that runs low speed), in 2d. In 3d apps I have the game volume turned up so I don't hear the fan anyway. The Asus 295 is no louder than my GTX 8800 was in 2d/3d apps. (to my ears that is ;)).

Cheers Bony - that could prove very useful as i know someone with a GTX 8800 so i can go and listen to it - what was the make of yours?

At idle the fan is nigh on silent.

If you wack the fan up to 100% on the stock cooler, it is louder than most hoovers, and i am not exagerating! Descriptions in reviews vary from 'jet engine' to 'hurricane' mode.

My previous setup was trisli 8800gtx's and @100% fan the single 295 was MUCH louder than the 3 8800's on 100%.

But as those above have said under noraml operation it will probably never reach 100% unless you set it manually so i wouldn't worry too much. Although I can't confirm this though as mine is under water.

Thanks guys, thats helped me out a lot - with regards to telling him what to expect.

It's the idle temp that's really important - so i'm fairly confident now about getting a different brand to the EVGA.

Is the BFG deemed the cream of the crop at the moment? (not that i imagine there's anything in it.)

I only got the Asus GTX 295 (excellent card btw) because the BFG was out of stock, and I couldn't wait. The BFG warranty is fantastic, and that is from people with personal experience with BFG (they also have a returns depot in Wales I think?)
My 295 fan never gets above 50%/80c when gaming so the noise it not bad at all. I have yet to hear it at 100% rate hovercraft mode :D
Go with BFG, you cannot go wrong. (I can highly recommend the Asus 295 also) :)

Thanks again, Boney - i can source the BFG version and your added info regarding the warranty and that they have a returns depot in Wales is very encouraging.

Excellent - thanks.

Just wait for the single PCB 295, thats why there is next to no stock of the current dual pcb version.

The single PCB is supposedly cooler therfore quieter & it will be much easier to get a 3rd party cooler for it.

Thanks for the heads up PwnDirect - ideally i would wait but i'm building it for a friend and he's been waiting on me for a while already to find the time to do his build. Unfortunately, i'm free in early June so i'm guessing i'll miss the launch?

Whats the ETA for the single PCB?

Thanks, yeah, i use CCC myself - i'll recommend it to him but he wants me to build him a pc that he can just switch on and forget about.

I'll probably use rivatuner or CCC if it's needed - but i'm hoping i can just let it run with it's own monitoring system as posts have been quite encouraging.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I can't say i've really noticed the noise of my gtx 295, it doesn't sound louder than my haf case fans, which aren't even very noisy either :D

Well for me the GTX295 was one of the noisiest cards i've ever had when i had an antec p182 since i used to have to turn the fan way up but when i got a big case it was much better and temps went down a lot so i was able to keep fans at a reasonable level and it wasn't bad at all for a dual gpu card...kind of wish i didn't get rid of it now.

O well no doubt i will be grabbing the next big card after the GTX295 rehash.

I think it is already out? Havent seen any right enough, they did say mid may.

Does anyone know for sure if this is out yet? I'm having trouble finding any hard facts...

If not, I've managed to source an EVGA (having trouble finding a BFG) as i like their guarantee. One question though, are the coolers on these cards still all the same at the moment - so one brand is as noisy/quiet as the next?

If so i'll place the order.

I believe they are all reference coolers atm :)
