Hi all,

I just got a GTX 295 and of course quickly fired it into my machine and installed the latest drivers(258.96). Assuming that was the job done i ran Vantage to see what the score was like and only got 12,106 opposed to the 19,000 i have seen on the reviews.

Looking into this problem makes me aware that possibly one core might not be working so look in the n Vidia control panel and there isn't even a sign for turning sli on or off, am i missing something?

A little more info on my specs are:
TX720W
Q6600 - 3.84Ghz
2Gb Ram
P5Q Pro

Can anyone shed some light on this problem please?

If theres no option to enable multigpu then it might have a borked gpu on it. The nvidia control panel should show this option:

yeah they always have that option in control panel unless as he said its got a borked GPU, but i doubt that would remove the option to be honest. tried different drivers? wouldn't rule out crappy drivers to be honest, had tons of problems with crossfire and ATI 10.7 drivers personally, they just borked the whole thing but works flawlessly on 10.4. :) do driver uninstall and go for an earlier set, see if that makes any difference, if it doesn't gotta assume its something deeper than driver related. out of curiosity could motherboard/PSU issues cause anything like that?

Edit: have a read through this, might be a fix somewhere in their, seems like same problem?

Ah cheers for that post Gashman, read that thread and seems the only solution they came to was to push the card up physically as the system booted :O.

Just for reference here is what gpuz/nvid show me at the moment.

It shows temps for both gpus so at least i know there is two in there just getting that second one to come on!!

still, its a pretty peculiar issue, though it seems more common than i originally thought when i first read this.

I had 3 faulty 295's with the exact same issue, trust me if its not showing in the control panel one gpu is hosed. Gpuz also showed the temp for the second core.

weird thing for me though, is in that thread i posted how have the cards went from working fine to not working because of such a peculiar problem? same would go for GPU being dead, how would one go about 'killing' only one of their GPUs? out of curiosity has the card ever been used before, in a previous system, etc?

It's a grade A refirb card so can only assume its been used previously. What i dont get is it, reading threads it appears it works in Vista, XP but not windows 7. I am using Windows 7 64bit just now and im way to try an older driver now see how that pans out.

Tried an older driver and this pushing the card up during start up and still nothing. I would return it but as so many others have been having problems in windows 7 64 only i am a bit hesitant to do so,

If i were you id return it, i spent an entire weekend building a second system with different os's (vista and xp) trying to troubleshoot the exact same problem with no success.

I have raised a ticket with OcUK now. Dont really know where i stand as i cannot get the 2nd core to show up but that could be down to Win 7 64bit? Dont really want to return it for them to find no fault... ah well see what happens.

Going by my experience its very unlikely its a win7 issue, far more likely a core is borked.

heres a thought, got another system (or maybe a friend) who could test for you? if it works fine in their system then that eliminates borked core, and if it doesn't work fine that would pretty much assure you had a broken core. :)

In the end i couldnt find a solution to my problem so returned the card and to save hassle picked up a MSi 470 :P

Thanks everyone for your help and input though :)
