GTX 295 problems

I appear to be having current issues with my GTX 295 card

For example, my other half tried to play her Sims 3 pets, and then it was loading, froze and then the screen just switched off, even though the music from the game was still playing in the background

The only way we resolved this, was going to the Nvidia control panel, and "Disable Multi-GPU" and from then on the game booted and worked as normal

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have installed the latest drivers that work for this card, and was working perfectly in the beginning, as I got this as an upgrade when I had a new build back in April 09, from the great guys at OcUK with a 850W Corsair PSU

Nvidia want to blow up your card. Go back to 28x

What do you mean by this? 28x? I just hate knowing my machine is not running to its full potential, only running at half its proper speed

Is there a way to fix the problem, or do you think its given up the ghost now??

Right. All of the latest drivers are version number 29x. IE - 297.

None of these are any good at all for the GTX 295, as Nvidia have basically discontinued it and want nothing more to do with it. Thus, the drivers numbered 28x - example - 285.62 are OKish.

I loaded the 29x versions - 290.36 and 290.53 onto my 295s and they overheated and shut my PC down. Nothing worked properly and Battlefield 3 would go to a black screen when launched and lock up my PC.

Ahh right the driver versions, im with you. Did not imagine that loading the latest drivers would actually cause harm to the card and cause it to lock, which is what is happening to me, causing me to disable 1 card and only use half the power.

I will try and install the older drivers and see if this works for me. Looking at the nvidia site, the certified ones before the 285.62 is version 280.26.

In all fairness the "latest" 29x.xx drivers are beta drivers.

Would anyone recommend me a specific driver that I should use that will enable me to use the whole device, without disabling 1 half of it or incur lockup issues (that I get major aggro from)

Re-install the latest beta but pick custom install, tick clean install and only put a tick in the box for drivers and physx leave out 3d vision and update.

I have a 295 running ok with them.

So the latest beta drivers available should work for me? I will try and see if they work OK. Good thing you posted, as I was about to install older drivers to see if they would work out. Good thing im off on leave today, gives me a good chance to try the latest, and failing that I will try the older drivers, to see which one makes my system work properly

Apols for DP !

I just remembered something. Basically when I set up my Quad SLI and surround I had issues with all of the modern drivers (28x) so tried GeForce 275.33 Driver WHQL

These were utterly awesome. Firstly they were the quickest in stuff like Fallout 3 (and far smoother than any later drivers !) but more importantly for me they picked up the correct resolution of my array too.

Only issue was that when you go to boot BF3 it basically says "Oi, dick, those are old drivers so I'm not going to run".

But, if you want trouble free drivers and don't play BF3 then by all means load em on. They're probably the last bastion of driver excellence for the 295 IMO.

I think the 275.33 are the ones I have also downloaded. Just waiting for Windows to shut down and restart, loaded with the latest 295 beta drivers that have been released. If these do not work properly, then I will start the process again, this time installing the 275.33 version
