GTX 295 replacement?

Unless it's broken I'd hold on to it for the time being. New ATi cards out in the next few months, and what's out there at the moment will not be much faster than what you already have, unless you're regularly hitting vram limits?

Buy now or keep on waiting for cards that might just be as fast as an overclocked 480, buy now and if the ATI refresh does not suck then sell on the 480 and take the hit, wait, wait meh.

they look pretty even to me from that comparison,

17 min v 35 min in crysis, yeah pretty even.....

you really do love GTX480 don't you raven

Actually I think it's a splendid card, and I'm happy to help people make a decision on what GFX card to buy by providing the factual info they need to make that decision.

Indeed, in that list Crysis is the only game where you get really impressive gains, worth the money for 1 game?

To be fair the rest of the games benched are hardly demanding, so expect the 480 to dominate the 295 in more up to date DX10 tiles like metro and BC2.

I very rarely game.. but still want a decent card for the release of Crysis 2/Rage.

Thats the brief really. Just something that performs similar or a little better!

Yeah but come on, £350 to see a benefit in a couple of games, and take a performance hit it others ? Its makes even less sense when we have a bunch of faster cards just about to be released that more than likely cost less.

I am in the same position, wondering about an upgrade to the GTX 295.

From what I have read in this forum:

Nvidia = 3D, faster/powerful
ATI = Cheaper, more power efficient

Both can give eyefinity/surround vision display setup. I would like 3D, so I think its Nvidia. Budget ~£450

Games I will play: COD MW2, BC2, Metro 2033, Crysis (1, Warhead & 2), Medal of Honor

At the moment I am thinking about 2x GTX 470 SLI, but I have heard romours of GTX 475.

Should I wait? Is this overkill? Any advice greatly received.

I would choose to hold on to that 295 until around november time. you defo want to get a new card before 1st Jan 2011 due to VAT rise - unless your not in the uk.

just one problem with surrand gaming on Nvidia in case you didn't know, you need SLI for 3 monitors...which I can see logitecs in

Yes I am in the UK and I will be getting something before the VAT increase ;)

Yes I did know that, thanks ;) as I am considering GTX 470 SLI

Yes but unless he's struggling with the games hes playing at the moment, it might be wise to hang on a little longer.

Fair enough the 480 is faster, but the 295 is hardly a slouch.

I agree. Wait and get a 6870 or the new G104 coming out soon. The 6870 and new G104 will be out before either Crysis 2 or Rage comes out.
