At idle with the fan on 35% it sits about 54c but after exiting a game the temps wont go down below 60 no matter how long i leave it for, even if i get it down by setting the fan to 100% it rises to about 62-64 once i set it back to auto.

Once i reboot the temps are back to normal again.. not sure if there is something running in the background that is causing this... any ideas?

What are the cards clockspeeds prior to entering 3D and after leaving? I'm guessing the card will run hotter if it gets stuck at 3D clocks. I'd also guess it would be a driver glitch rather than some background process interfering. Pure speculation though, and assuming both GPU's exhibit this behaviour.

60 degrees?
What's wrong with that?
Are the 295's not like other nvidias?

I'd just set a manual overclock, well underclock, and click on the shortcut for that after leaving a game. Or I'd just remind meself it's not a CPU and cope with the mild warmth that is 60 degrees.

Hmmm, sounds like it could be fixed by a driver update. The 4870X2 had trouble switching do 2D clocks before I seem to recall.
