GTX 295

I've just obtained one of these for £15 (sold as not working, just needed the internal ribbon cable reconnecting - dual PCB version). I only won it because I wanted the 4890 that was being sold with it (also being sold as faulty, but works fine) to be flashed to go in my Mac Pro.

Is it worth upgrading my GF's PC from the current 4870 to this 295? The rest of the specs are Core 2 Duo E6700, 8GB DDR2, 650W Corsair PSU.

It appears to run OK, and is surprisingly quieter than the 4870 (and the 4890), I'm just concerned that a) the PSU might not cut it, and b) that there might be drastically more heat?

Is the performance increase noticable?

But as you said you will need a good PSU and the heat and power consumption will go up

Much better performance, and around the same temperatures under load (actually less on Crysis). +~100w more under high load, so may need to get 750W PSU to be safe

Looks like I'll have to get a new PSU then, is the CPU up to the task of keeping up with the 295?

I believe the GTX-295 would be a great match for that particular CPU.
Used one myself in an E8400 for a couple of years.
