GTX 460 1gb SLi and SSAO 'input lag' question

Hi all, so currently I have a single GTX 460 1gb and I believe due to the fact it only has 1gb of VRAM, having SSAO on causes severe input lag (fps is still above 50+) in multiple newish games - Deus Ex, Shogun II and Metro 2033 to name some.

So here's my big question that I can't find a definitive answer on:

Will the 2x 1gb VRAM from SLi be enough to deal with DX11 features such as SSAO?
as each card renders half a screen I would assume it does but I don't really want to risk it if it doesn't. Would I need to buy a 2gb card or would 2x 1gb suffice?

Thanks for reading any light shed is appreciated!

I think SLI generally works by each card rendering alternate frames so in theory you can get double the frame rate but you still effectively only have 1GB of VRAM.
