GTX 460 audio problem

Hello all

This is probably a stupid question but I had a quick look and nothing was obvious to me.

I just bought an EVGA GTX 460 Superclocked and now my motherboard audio has disappeared from my system.

I'm getting audio out from the GTX though my monitor via the HDMI cable, but I don't want that as my monitor speakers are rubbish.

I've check in the bios and the motherboard audio is enabled, but windows isn't detecting it anymore. The only audio devices I have listed in Device manager is the GTX 460.

Do I need to do something with the card to disable the audio on it or is there a cable or something I need for my motherboard audio?

I hope that makes sense and somebody can help

Cheers

I can't do anything with the mobo audio as it's not listed in device manager and Windows thinks at present that their are no recording devices and only one output; the GTX.

I'll try reinstalling the mobo audio drivers tomorrow and see what happens

if you right click the volume icon and hit playback devices the onboard sound doesn't appear? you dont have a bios option to disable onboard when there's another sound device available right?

If I go into the sound options there is only one playback device and that's my monitor, which is connected to the GTX 460, my onboard isn't listed anywhere, Windows seems to have forgotten it exists :)

I'm hoping the drivers will sort it, because the speakers in my monitor are .5 watt I think :)

Thing is, if the device manager doesn't see it you're either using an ancient board or something in your BIOS is stopping the onboard from being recognised because the 460 is providing audio, personally I'd be looking in the BIOS right now

Not necessarily; devices sometimes don't appear in device manager if a driver isn't present. I've seen it happen a lot.

I'll reinstall drivers now and see what happens

Driver just installed and now the audio is coming out of my onboard audio.

Strange how the GTX takes over the audio output once installed.

Thanks for the input guys!
