GTX 460 Problems

Hi there about a year ago i bought a pre built system from right here on overclockers. And i have no problems up until the last few weeks. Ever since i updated my gfx drivers i started having problems with screen artifacts then crashing before i just got the blue screen of death.

I have since RMA my card to gigabyte who "Repaired" it but after installing it and updating the drivers the original problem just came back with the artifacts and crashing.

Ive searched all over the net for solutions etc and it seems the 460 is just a terrible card as there are hundreds of people out there that have the same problems.

So 2 questions:

1 - Anyway know of any solutions to help fix the 460. (PS my computer worked fine with a cheap 5450 just to make it work for now)

or

2 - Would i be as well buying a new GFX which after these problem its going to have to be an ati as ive lost all faith in nvidia now. And if so which one with a budget around the £100 mark.

Regards

Have you tried rolling back the drivers to a previous version? Could just be software or driver problem.

If you get a new card, I would opt for the 6850. Great card for around £100, will last you ages and is more powerful than the 460 and only uses one 6 pin and not two.

If you are looking to fix your card, have you tried the "oven method". I tried it on my fiancee's old 8800gts last night as it died yesterday (didnt work in my pc either) and now it works.

Basically, for dead or dying cards, take off the cooler, clean any TIM (thermal) off it, pre heat your oven to 200C or gas mark 6 and then stick the card, gpu core facing down onto a oven tray with foil on it, stick it in for 8-10 minutes, take it out, let it cool down for 30 mins and it might work.

Worked for me xD

The card cant be dead since it was seemingly repaired by the guys at gigabye. Though i have just sent them another email and they are now going to replace it with a new one. Just concerned now that it might be something else and not the card if they said they tested it.

Also tried older drivers and that hasnt worked either.

What about your PSU? Maybe that could be the problem. Not giving the card enough power as it may be on its way out? What PSU do you have?

Its a corsair cx600

I suppose it could be that i dont have another PSU to test. Would that just casue the dreaded "Display driver has stopped working" error?

it has to be a driver problem. What about the standard microsoft driver... does that work? as in when you first boot up windows installs it for you?

Yeah all the standard drivers work etc..i can do normal things with it all isntalled its just when i try load up any type of game the display driver stops working. Ive booted in safe mode and deleted all the driver files from system32 folder but still not working.

wow this one is weird.

well we have establedlished that you card doesnt like any drivers what so ever.

it cannot be the psu if the driver stops working.

sorry dude, i think you card doesn't like you very much. time for a replacement if you ask me!

Yeah well tomorrow they are coming with a brand new card to replace the old one so will see if its that. It doesnt make sense since it had worked for about a year then suddenly stopped. Just hope the gigabyte has made a mess and never fixed the card problem in the first place and with the new one i will see.

If not then im lost with whats wrong with it. May try a fresh install if it comes up with the same problem

I ain't too sure. The only other thing I can think of is that the bios don't like the drivers, or windows don't like the drivers that you are installing.

Just thought i would let you know that there must have been a problem with the old card that they didnt fix as the new one they gave me has been installed and is working fine!!

So useless gigabyte for not fixing it properly first time but good gigabyte for giving me brand new one
