I have my GTX 460 overclocked to 845/1690/2100 (afterburner) and sometimes when i play games they switch there freqencies without input from me.

For example playing WoW will sometimes lower the core to 450!

Just playing Gothic 4 and the screen went black and then changed the core speeds to 675.

I have no idea what is going on.

Yeah for me sometimes the core/shader clock just stuck at 405 doesn't matter what OC profile I apply, everything goes back to normal once I restart PC though.

With Gothic 4 perhaps the oc wasn't stable? Driver might have stopped responding, turning screen black for a sec then recovers, reverting all clock settings to default?

Try going in to the control panel and mange 3D settings, then in global settings change power management mode to prefer maximum performance.

Just tested the power setting and that hasnt changed anything.

Kombuster shows the overclock as stable.

Currently clocked at:

No volt change
845 Core
1690 Shader
2100 Memory

Thing is i should be able to get these clocks no problem as most people are able to achieve this.
