Just a quick question. Ive got a GTX 460 1gb gdrr5

Im playing GTA V and it says im using all my mb of memory in the game settings but then when ive got gpu-z it shows im using 743 average.

Something wrong with either program?

Try MSI afterburner and enable the OSD. For me, the VRAM reported in game roughly matches what the GTA settings page says.

edit: ok the screenshot is from another person lol :D
use MSI afterburner, to have more accurate and Live reading of memory usage, but 1Go is definitely not enough, you will have to puts settings as low as you can, and that wont stop memory saturation depanding the lenght of your game session.

Just to clarify... I'm not the OP and that screenshot is from my 560ti which has 1.2GB VRAM. I had been playing at 1080p for the last month and bought myself a 1440p monitor for Christmas and was amazed to see pretty much identical performance. The only difference is a little pop-in on distant objects when moving at speed. The only way it's playable is by having VSYNC on half (30FPS) but considering how ancient my GPU is, I'm more than happy with the visuals/performance.

Yeh i understand that 1 Gb isnt enough to play a game at high settings. at the moment its running smoothly at 30fps with no jitter.

the Gpu usage was only at 40% average
The memory tab in afterburner says 982mb inside GTA V says 1684mb/1023mb
