currently i have 470 sli, i7 920 everything stock clocks [cooling is not a problem], 850w psu corsair. Will the psu handle 1 more 470 [since i heard 470sli consumes about 650 at the wall and nvidia says that a 470 takes 215w]. if yes will the cpu keep up with tri sli with stock clocks.
thanks

Doubt the PSU would be too comfortable running tri-SLI GTX470 on a i7 - 850 is the reccomended amount for i7 + 470 SLI.

Why do you need a third 470? What kind of outrageous multi monitor setup do you have :p You're getting into diminishing returns when you go beyond two cards.

Dont really need it although fps is choppy sometimes. I play with max settings 3d vision on full hd. But since my friend wants to sell his 470 to upgrade he is willing to sell for 100 eu and i just was thinking

That sounds like a bargain. I reckon you'd struggle with 850W though. I see why you'd want as much graphics power as possible if you're running 3D all the time.

3D Vision in theory should scale well with extra GPUs as its effectively rendering a duplicate frame for each frame - which works a treat with AFR. But PSU wise is certainly not to be taken lightly.

no i would say you need atleast 950w+ as i have been looking at the same running tri sli on my rig as i have 3 470's across 2 machines and thought it would be good to try

Sounds like a good deal but you will need more power, would it not be better to sell your two and get a 5XX something ?

in his situation nother 470 would be the best route as at 1080 he will not need the high 1.5gb ram off the 480/580 and the 570 is just the same but with a couple of extra cores

with the 3d set up tri sli should scale quite well
